At least part of the reason Mr. Bradford's wife suggested enrolling female students alongside male students was because PCA was in danger of getting shut down due to not having enough students enrolled at the school.

Speaking as someone who only ever attended public schools, I'm not sure if it would be way the same at a private school, but I know that some schools are required to have a certain number of students enrolled at them, or else they have to shut down.
