"Delilah" is a prequel to "Green, Green Grass of Home"

The Plot Twist in "Green, Green Grass of Home" (released as a Tom Jones single in 1966) reveals that the narrator is on death row, awaiting his execution which will happen at daybreak. In "Delilah" (released in 1968), the narrator tells of how he has just murdered his girlfriend for her infidelity and is waiting for the police to come and arrest him. Perhaps the two narrators are the same man — after the police came to break down the door and arrest him murdering Delilah, he was tried, found guilty and sentenced to death by execution. In his final moments, he's thinking not of her but of his parents, his home town and his childhood sweetheart.
