For the game's first anniversary, the developers will add Mewtwo as a playable character.
With it being one of the most iconic Pokémon of all despite it's absence in Pokémon Unite, alongside prior legendary/mythical Pokémon being added for special ocassions, this seems like a no-brainer.- Jossed, somewhat. While Mewtwo itself wasn't added, Mew was.

Following the pattern of a new video for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet coming out every three Wednesdays, and Pokémon UNITE playable Pokémon coming out every two Wednesdays with an in-game announcement the previous Wednesday, they would both coincide on October 19th, 2022. To promote Scarlet and Violet, and to incentivize people into playing Pokémon UNITE, they would announce a Pokémon, or a full evolution line on that day, then announce that Pokémon or evolution line coming to the Pokémon UNITE roster a week from then.- Jossed.
