Barlow is Racine's kid.
Barlow recognized Maquia on sight in their first meeting and knew she was the ward of Racine. It's possible he trades with the Iorph and learned this secondhand. Given Maquia's shy nature, it's unlikely she would have accompanied Racine to anywhere where she would have met him. Racine's strict rule about Iorph going outside and advice to not fall in love to avoid being alone makes more sense in hindsight if this is a painful lesson she learned over her 400 years. Lastly Barlow's final words to Maquia about how Racine would have felt about her experiencing love were a more personal look from the Iorph Elder than a common trader would have known.- The part about them being related is confirmed, but Barrow being Racine's kid is Jossed. According to a booklet packaged with the special edition Blu-Ray, Racine and Barrow are actually half-siblings from different mothers.
The person who stabbed Ariel in the invasion was Lang
It is unknown what nation Lang served as a soldier. Given that Ariel’s wound looked like it was intentionally non-lethal (ie stabbed in the leg while avoiding major blood vessels like the femoral artery), the motive is obvious...take Ariel out of the fight without killing him.Who would have such a motive? Someone who grew up with Ariel and was a soldier. Lang is the most logical identity.
- Jossed. Lang and Ariel both served in the Mezarte Army. The soldier who wounded Ariel wore a different combat uniform from those issued to Mezarte soldiers and thus was not affiliated with Mezarte.
The red-haired woman in The Stinger is Medmel
The director has stated that many Iorph survived the attack and integrated into the human population, with many marrying and producing half-Iorph children. When the Iorph reclaimed their homeland, those half-Iorph were also welcomed among them. It's not impossible that once Leillia recovered from the immediate trauma, she was able to reconcile with Medmel who joined her mother now that Mezarte no longer exists.
