WMG / Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

Go To

Kiryu will go back to the orphanage for good, and also train Kasuga into really becoming his successor, resulting in a Bittersweet Ending.
Considering the fact that his existence was revealed to the public without Kiryu himself pulling stops to make it happen, the Daidoji probably won't bother screwing with Kiryu when they got other business, such as how to deal with the side that exposed the secret.

At the same time, the Daidoji also doesn't see any point in keeping Kiryu from his kids now that his survival has been revealed, and that goes without saying the fact that Kiryu has many allies who could potentially pose a threat to the Daidoji. Given the fact that the deal with Kiryu required Kiryu to be dead, the Boss, with some convincing from the High Priest, would Know When to Fold Them and allow Kiryu to retire to a quiet life with his kids, as long as he swore not to expose any of the Daidoji's secrets.

So Kiryu returns to the Morning Glory, and somehow his role in dissolving the Yakuza would also be exposed, preventing the public from accusing his kids and maybe even making him a folk hero of sorts. He is obviously happy that he could see them again and raise them, and they all welcome him back with open arms...

Except while this might be a true Earn Your Happy Ending for Kiryu, the fact that Kiryu is dying of cancer means he only has a couple of years left to live. He'll be able to enjoy it all with his kids, but that means we will likely never see him in action again. The game can even further make it clear how Kiryu's age has truly ended by him calling up his contacts and old teachers (Komaki, for example. Majima and Saejima would also have no qualms helping Kiryu train Kasuga) in order to help him train Kasuga.

As such, the game could end by Kasuga arriving, at first excited to be trained by legends, and he hangs around pretty well with the Morning Glory kids... Until Kiryu finally shoves the hard truth to both Kasuga and us that his time is truly over, that Kasuga is the only one who has the markings to be the next hero. Kasuga would probably be a bit against that, either unable to believe that Kiryu would die or trying to make him be optimistic that his cancer could be cured, but he ultimately accepts being trained by Kiryu, because he knows fully well what kind of chaos there could be without Kiryu there to solve it.

  • Confirmed. Kiryu has a major Post-Victory Collapse after defeating Ebina, forcing him into a wheelchair, but he is confirmed to be alive and receiving treatment.

Kiryu's cancer is not 'normal'
  • While most people guessed it's because he smoke, there's cutscene in the trailer that shows green chemical gas or something. It's probably what done Kiryu in.
  • If Kiryu's 'cancer' actually caused by this weird chemical thing it's not impossible to there be some kind of 'cure'. One can hope. Yakuza's story can be whacky, rubber bullet and all.
  • There's a small shot of Kiryu, in his original look, having streaks of gray hair in Sega of America's trailer. It could very well be a terminal cancer diagnosis, and the chemical gas he inhaled could have exacerbated it.
  • The game states that he got it from an accident at a nuclear waste facility.
    • Actually, Kiryu himself says that he is unsure if that is the incident that really caused it or not, as the facility itself had only low-risk waste stored and not actual nuclear material. Kiryu being a longtime heavy smoker and drinker, anything could be the reason, although his exposure to radiation in the facility could definitely be a factor.

The Revolve Bar Barkeep isn't Andre Richardson
Since him surviving would be the obvious twist (as well as invalidating Mine's death), the actual twist would be that he's either just someone who happens to look like him or an identical relative.
  • Let's just assume it's identical long lost twin, just like Kazama had.

There would be another interquel
Regardless of whether Kiryu lives or dies by the end of the game it is obvious the purpose is to hand over the torch to Kasuga. They tried this in La D but people obviously still likes Kiryu (and OG battle system) so he came back in gaiden.
  • The obvious solution? Another Yakuza story set between 0 and 1 starring the old gang. Instead of seeing these beloved OG characters growing old they can be remembered at their prime as a legend.
  • Meanwhile Ichiban could have his next game with turn based system. It probably even didn't involve Yakuza at all (with Yakuza dissolution and all)

There will be Title Drop
The moral of the story is there are some things you can't buy even with Infinite Wealth
  • For Kiryu, it will be life, as he was dying. No amount of money can stops death (or cure cancer) and it also can't revive his dead loved ones
  • For Ichiban, it will be love, be it romantic love (as he is proposing for marriage) or familial love as he search his mother.

Haruka and the rest of the Sunflower group will appear in the game and depending on the plot she and Kiryu might pull a Final Fantasy V Krile and Galuf
  • It is hard to assume Haruka won’t respond to the VTuber announcements plus Gaiden’s ending did show thee Sunflower kids did suspect Kiryu was alive. But also we have no idea how advanced Kiryu's cancer is seeing how often prior he’s fought through near-fatal injuries, topping matters they might now be active targets again with whoever is the mastermind of the events Kasuga and Kiryu are caught up in who might have the resources to actually capture them.
  • Clearly though things can get deadly and whoever the mastermind has leading efforts might do what so many failed to do and finally kill Kiryu (Though with Kiryu at least taking them with him). In response Haruka will join Kasuga’s party (inheriting Stats developing from Kiryu) focused on revenge with Kasuga spending time discreetly trying to talk her out of it.

There's gonna be an antagonist based off the Grand Theft Auto series.
The GTA series is the most American thing ever made by a team of Scots and it'd bring all the comparisons between Yakuza and GTA from back in the day full circle. More interestingly, a running theme throughout GTA is the bloody pursuit of the American Dream: a villain rendered hollow and ruthless by their climb to the top might make for a good foil to our ambitious hero.
  • Well, there is Dwight, but we have to wait Until the Game is Released.
    • I take my statement back.

Tatara is actually a guy
  • Considering they tried to ruin Ichiban and Kiryu's lives along with how female enemies are not allowed in these games, it should be the most plausible way for the player to get to beat them up.
    • Jossed on several levels. She's Chitose and was Forced into Evil to begin with, so she never even wanted to be an antagonist, with the identity hijacker later also being female.

The Hawaii map will be reused for the third Judgment game
  • Given how Lost Judgment reused Ijincho with some added new places, it would make sense that the trend would follow, possibly with Yagami being playable in Hawaii, while Kaito gets to be playable in Kamurocho/Ijincho.
