The suprise character in the post-game bonus mission was originally planned to be a Stan Lee cameo
There's just this weird "build-up" to said character's appearance and the reveal that it was Willie Lumpkin is treated like a big deal. Granted, we are talking about a really obscure Marvel character, but I'm not sure how many people actually had a big "OMG! It's Willie Lumpkin!" reaction or really cared period. But, if the big reveal was meant to be that we were saving Stan Lee (or character voiced by him), all of that makes much more sense. Plus, Willie's voice actor sounds like someone doing their best Stan Lee impression.Either they had not recorded Lee's lines yet or Marvel told them to replace him in order to keep Avengers: Endgame as his final Marvel cameo.
