The Mother of Darkness of Inferno and Martha of The Beyond are the same person.

After her apartment building burnt to the ground, Mater Tenebrarum went as far south from New York City as she could without leaving the country. She eventually made her way to New Orleans and attempted to set up new roots to restore her power in some place called "The Seven Doors Hotel," posing as an innocuous caretaker with a disturbed son in a play to wrest the hotel away from its new owner, Liza Merril. Alas, in her weakened state, Mater Tenebrarum's sinister, witchy wickedness was no match for the abject evil forces released by the Book of Eibon...
