Nino was present when Indio raped Mortimer's sister and murdered her boyfriend/husband.
Indio needs marijuana to stave off flashbacks of the rape and Nino is the only gang member who has marijuana. So it would make sense that Nino would know what event Indio flashes back to and why he needs marijuana.
