Muriel is the only one
Courage cares about, and she seems to be dead in the game, as evidenced by her
Nightmare Face icon and funeral-style portrait. The three paw prints Courage is tasked to collect may be an item capable of resurrecting someone when
put together. Courage, acting as a
Necromancer, is collecting them all to attempt to resurrect Muriel from the dead.
It's because of Eustace.
She followed the rules.
He broke the rules.
While possible Courage did something to break the rules, the odds of it not being Eustace's fault are zero - and now Courage has to fix it.
- Maybe the "he" is referring to Robert or the moon spirit?
- Then: 1) Why would the Spirit of the Harvest Moon tell Courage what to find if he caused it? 2) Where is Eustace?
