A consciousness cannot be transferred; only copied. Every time the Lyoko Warriors get digitized into Lyoko, the them at that moment is killed and copied. When they return to Earth, the them that returns is not the same person who went in, but rather a clone of the person in question. Even disregarding other franchise's takes on this comcept, we really DO get hints of this, such as the episode where the Supercomputer made three clones of Odd at the same time.

Obviously not at all canon because crossover theory, but a fun idea to link the two franchises together. Think about it though. Why would Lyoko exist at all? What use would a virtual world and the ability to create avatars in realistically have for the government? Perhaps they discovered the presence of the Digital World and the creatures that populate it and wanted to use it for their own ends. Lyoko was to act as a bridge between these two worlds, and X.A.N.A. would work to find a way to access it from there. But then AIIsACrapshoot X.A.N.A. went rogue and the rest is history.

In the Season 2 episode "The Chips Are Down", Ulrich was able to use the Return to the Past feature with no issue, however three episodes later in "Temptation" Ulrich reveals that he has no idea as to how that feature works. Therefor it is possible that the constant use of the Return to the Past feature led to the Timeline being distorted and events getting erased.

Odd's real name is "Odoberto", a very rare variant of the Italian name "Oberto" (itself a rare name) - and one very similar to "odore", that is "smell". So he decides to go by "Odd", because it may mean, well, odd in English but is still better than his real name.

* That's not a bad theory. It makes sense. Perhaps the reason he created all those extra super computers was because he needed extra power to destroy Carthage (and he created those robots to defend the computers should they come under attack). I mean, since the Carthage was started (in what, the '70s?) it had probably grown exponentially. Hell, depending on just WHAT it does exactly, it may be a threat to the entire world. Heh, it's probably some sort of system that keeps the entire world under the control... What was that theory regarding The Patriots again? If this is all true though wouldn't that make Xana the hero of the show, which is nothing but a bunch of NiceJobBreakingItHero moments?

WMG: Odd Della Robbia is Italian
Della Robbia is an Italian name. While Italian family names exist in France and aren't that rare, his hammier and more expanside personality hints to that.

WMG: Odd is a self-made nickname
Odd's real name is "Odoberto", a very rare variant of the Italian name "Oberto" (itself a rare name) - and one very similar to "odore", that is "smell". So he decides to go by "Odd", because it may mean, well, odd in English but is still better than his real name.

Simple: Lyoko or some analogue actually exists, and the MIB aren't all that keen on admitting the French beat Area 51 to it. The lack of editing on [=MoonScoop=]'s part, by association, is a subversive measure to break the Masquerade, spearheaded by none other than Sharon Mann herself. Because he knows that the Lyoko Warriors are trying to stop XANA and save a young woman from a horrid fate, and later on he finds out that his own government has played a part in hurting her and arguably causing this whole mess in the first place. As such, he's sympathetic enough that he's willing to let their actions slip. In a strange way, the supercomputer would also turn his demotion into the gym teacher role by his organization into something with a lot more purpose, hence why he becomes much nicer after the fact. He would probably also find a way to make sure that Jeremie's false Aelita identity could become more permanent and less under scrutiny discreetly, thus ensuring that in some way, Aelita can live the life she should have had without being at risk from less scrupulous members of his organization.
