** The powers are related to some sort of variable gene, like in Franchise/XMen. Calvin's powers are related to genius and the ability to warp reality with his imagination within limitations (for instance, only he can ''see'' the alterations, whereas everyone else can only see the effects.)

[[WMG: Calvin's surname is "Twinky".]]
It's very common for bullies in cartoons to refer to their victims by their surnames (with Francis from ''WesternAnimation/TheFairlyOddParents'' being the most notable I can think of), so Moe refers to Calvin as Twinky not as an insult, but because that's his EmbarrassingLastName.

* But Jeff is sixteen years older than Annie. When Jeff was six years old, Annie shouldn't have even been born yet. Also, in terms of personality, the imaginative and mischievous Calvin actually matches better to ''Abed'', though that would require a RaceLift.

* This opens up the possibility that Calvin was not the only god-in-training in his neighborhood. We only ever saw Calvin reshaping reality, but that doesn't necessarily mean the other children in the neighborhood didn't. Or, in another universe, another version of Calvin serves as a supporting character to another god-in-training. This, combined with certain similarities between the two characters, suggests that ''Susie Derkins eventually grows up to become LightNovel/HaruhiSuzumiya''.

** Let's go one more step. Calvin grows up to be Jeremy, who grows up to be Frazz, who grows up to be "Tyler Durden," while Susie grows up to be Haruhi Suzumiya; since [[LightNovel/HaruhiSuzumiya Kyon]] becomes [[Series/DoctorWho The Doctor]], this leads to the inescapable conclusion that after the end of ''Fight Club'', ''Calvin becomes [[Series/{{Torchwood}} Captain Jack]].'' What this means for Susie... [[Main/DeadStarWalking bad end]]. Then again, she's a god. She'll be all right.

[[WMG: The first strip was just one of many games the two played]]
We never actually see how the two meet, its just implied they met between the first and second strips. A later strip will have Hobbes say that Calvin burped a lot as a baby, meaning he's had Hobbes at least that long (or it was an error on Watterson's part, but I choose to go with this theory).

to:

* Adding to this theory, all of Calvin's alter egos (Tracer Bullet, Spaceman Spiff, Stupendous Man, etc.) exist on further layers of reality. Because they are "further" from Calvin's base reality (the mundane world), Calvin doesn't normally exist in those worlds as he does in the magical world. But if he wants to, he can synchronize himself with any of these alter egos and blend their level of reality with his own.

** Alternately, Hobbes might be an Orphan that Calvin adopted, especially since he canonically met Hobbes by catching him in a tiger trap. Not technically being Calvin's creation makes Hobbes more disdainful and rebellious than normal.

* On the other hand, Calvin's mother ''does'' on occasion show some Calvin-like behavior, such as when she tells him they're having "monkey heads" for dinner (really stuffed peppers), which was very reminiscent of Calvin's cafeteria antics.

* That's why he's well spoken and able to stand upright. He wandered through a multiversal portal and was caught in Calvin's tiger trap. The rest is history.

to:

[[WMG: [[Hobbes was a surprise gift made by Calvin's mother.]]

In the first ever comic, we see
Calvin is W. D. Gaster]]"catch" Hobbes in a makeshift "Tiger Trap". Perhaps Calvin had been at this for a while to no success, before his mom decided to surprise him with a stuffed tiger she sewed herself.

They Fight Crime is no longer a trope

* More like MasterOfIllusion, only that he can currently do the stuff only on himself, and he doesn't even realize he can do that. Once he grows up a bit, he'll understand the power he holds, learn to affect other people with his illusions, realize that Hobbes is only the projection of his imagination (this'll be hard for him,) and possibly make an alignment shift from neutral to good and start to [[TheyFightCrime fight crime]].

** They don't have to. Hobbes was probably discarded at some time. Slick's parents are never shown. And Calvin could simply have left town and changed names when for some reason. (We don't even know how old Slick is, BTW.) Also, WMG is not Main/SeriousBusiness. ;)

[[WMG:Hobbes is the same species as the toys from ''WesternAnimation/ToyStory'', but more powerful.]]
