She is trying to determine whether he will defend himself when someone calls him useless (the "I've done my part" option), or if he will accept it and try to make excuses (the "Cut me some slack" option). Passing this test or not is the last decision that sets flags for her route; if you accompanied her and Misha to the Shanghai previously, and choose "I've done my part," you will almost certainly go through her route (see below.) If you choose "cut me some slack," you are locked out of it]].

* SerialEscalation: Shortly after the game's release, the moderators on /a/ created a sticky thread (with [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oqf36ReTrDU music]]) to hold all KS discussion. However, the KS sticky threads had to be removed within the day since they would get bloated with thousands of posts. In the two days following the game's release, two sticky threads were made with a total of ''[[MemeticMutation over nine thousand]]'' posts. This isn't even counting the individual threads that inevitably pop up.
** Threads have been popular on /v/ as well, competing with ''VideoGame/LeagueOfLegends'' threads, ''VideoGame/{{Dota 2}}'' threads, fighting generals, and trading/raffling threads. After the opening of the new /vg/ section, threads are still very active, with over 300 already done (a new one is created every 1000 posts) as of mid-2012.
** ''Katawa Shoujo'' entered the "Top 10 Wanted FAQS" chart on Website/{{Gamefaqs}}' homepage at the third place. A few days later, ''it reached the top spot'' and stayed there for a while. More people have been introduced to it thanks to this. It also narrowly missed entering the general "Top 10 Games" chart in the same homepage.

* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: Interestingly played with. Hisao Nakai is a NiceGuy, yeah, and the girls come to love him as he gets over his initual depression and then begins to reach for them... but that doesn't ''necessarily'' mean he's gonna win their affections off the bat. In example, [[spoiler: if he falls into white knighting in Hanako's path, this will lead to the ''Bad End'' since she'll get tired of his well-intentioned but patronising attitude]]; similarly, [[spoiler: trying to [[CloudCuckooLandersMinder support and understand]] [[MadArtist Rin]] in her own path might bring him a heavy emotional toll]].

** On a far, far more minor note, you meet for lunch with Lilly, Emi, Rin and Hanako on the roof on Lilly's route. You don't actually get to eat anything yourself [[spoiler:because your heart starts playing up a bit]].

* SliceOfLife: [[spoiler:Shizune's]] route, one of the main reasons why it is not everyone's cup of tea. Probably because [[spoiler:she lives in the moment and compartmentalizes everything]].

* SnowMeansLove: Subverted. Your crush in the beginning confesses her love to you during a snowy day. You then suffer a heart attack, go to the hospital, and you guys are through. Harsh.
** Something of the similar effect happens in Rin's route[[note]]Most of the routes end in the summer, averting this trope, while Shizune's route supposedly spans that entire year up until graduation, the time skip between acts 3 and 4 bypasses winter completely.[[/note]], but with dandelion seeds. Minus the being-derailed-by-a-heart-attack part, of course.
* SomethingSomethingLeonardBernstein: Because the timepass animation continues on its own, chances are that unless you pause the game at the right time, you're only going to hear the first few seconds of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9mnE50lIz0 Passing of Time]].
** [[SubvertedTrope It does, however, unexpectedly show up]] [[spoiler:at the start of the last scene in Rin's route]], where it's used as part of a regular scene, with a few screens worth of text and is likely to run longer.
* SoProudOfYou: The KS devs finally got one of these from [[https://web.archive.org/web/20130424162443/http://www.geocities.jp/raita_z/ RAITA himself]]
** Lilly, [[spoiler:shortly before leaving for Scotland]] tells Hanako that she considers her a strong person at heart, and believes that she will be able to do well in the future [[spoiler:even after she has left]].

* SpiritualSuccessor: What the ''Missing Stars'' and ''Love Despite'' projects are aiming to be.

* SwissCheeseSecurity: Apparently [[spoiler:Shizune's father]] has no trouble entering school grounds with a [[EveryJapaneseSwordIsAKatana katana]].

* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: Оn the forum - there most certainly are ''not'' fanworks of Hanako and Shizune as {{Magical Girl}}s.
** Misha and Shizune also love doing this whenever Hisao suspects they're trying to trick him into doing Student Council work. Or when he suspects they're steering him towards actually joining Student Council.

* ThoseTwoGuys: If you are pursuing a girl other than Shizune, she and Misha become this as they (and the asocial Hanako) are the only heroines who are in his classes. The other girls, bar maybe Hanako, rarely appear or do not reappear beyond Act 1 if their or their best friend's route is not being pursued.

* UmbrellaOfTogetherness: Rin and Hisao share an umbrella during her path. Emi was also part of this scenario, but left to go running.

* ViolationOfCommonSense: Hisao overexerting himself in the second day on the track is bad for his heart and earns him a WhatTheHellHero from the Nurse and Mutou, but it's a key step in getting to Emi's route.

* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Kenji is all over this trope. Who's his ex-girlfriend? What was in that box? Did Yuuko ever find out he was stealing books from the library? It's all a RiddleForTheAges... His ex-girlfriend is heavily implied to be [[spoiler: Yuuko]] but it's never confirmed. In fact, the prototype build all but shouts it to the player, but that's not exactly canon. Probably for the better that it was made more subtle.

* YouBastard: Part of Hanako's fanbase and, on her route, Hisao, are attracted to her because she is TheWoobie, even more than the other girls. But in her worst ending, [[spoiler:she snaps at Hisao, telling him that she believes he, Lilly and everyone else see her as a "broken" individual and pity her, declaring that she hates him and Lilly]]. These comments can just as easily apply to some of her fans.

* QueerFlowers: Lilly and Hanako are very close. Lilly was Hanako's only friend for years, and Hanako effectively idolizes Lilly. Meanwhile, Lilly displays a level of comforting warmth around Hanako that surpasses the motherly instincts she has around other students. The two of them get a SleepCute moment on a train. To top it off, during Lilly's route when she explains to Hanako that she's in a relationship with Hisao, Hanako delivers an "IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy" speech.
