Girl of the Bakehouse is a Kinetic Novel by MICA Team. A Doujinshi circle at the time, it was distributed in Chinese conventions in 2009.
In 2080 AD, a war engulfs between whole Eurasian continent, killing tens of millions and causing devastation throughout the land. Mendo is a young war correspondent embedded in the Antarctic Army looking for a scoop. He finds it in a local girl, Jefuty, who nursed him back to health in her family's bakery. But as Mendo discovers that he's falling for her, Jefuty reveals that her parents were killed in an air strike — one inextricably linked to Mendo — and begins to carry out revenge against the Antarctic Army that caused her so much anguish...
Two succeeding projects were planned: a sequel by the name of Girl of the Bakehouse 2 was to feature strategic gameplay and a revised story, and an HD remaster of Girl of the Bakehouse with updated assets. By 2012, both projects was folded into a single strategy game, which was released in the following year as Codename Bakery Girl.
Girl of the Bakehouse provides example of the following tropes:
- Downer Ending: Mendo arranges a transport chopper to take him and Jefuty away to Antarctica, but Jefuty snatches a guard's handgun and kills Major Charles, only to be gunned down herself. She profess relief at having avenged her parents and kisses Mendo, expiring moments later. Five years pass by, and Mendo ponders if he did the right thing by helping carry out her revenge.
- From Nobody to Nightmare: Jefuty begins the story as a humble (if traumatized) town girl, and her murder spree eventually attracts enough attention that the Antarctic Army dispatched a high-ranking officer just to figure out who's actually killing their soldiers.
- Important Haircut: Jefuty styles her long hair into a pageboy cut after taking her first life.
