Visual Novel / GENBA no Kizuna

Go To

Genba no Kizuna is a murder mystery Visual Novel by Gosatsu Visual Novels.

The story takes place in the same universe as Shinrai: Broken Beyond Despair, and takes place on September 12, 2010, roughly a month and a half prior to the events of the fateful Halloween party.

The game has not been released yet, but a demo is available on Gosatsu's website. This page has more information about the game.

The work contains examples of:

  • 20 Minutes into the Past: Like Shinrai, the game takes place in 2010.
  • Ambiguously Related: While Nobuhiko Shinpuku is the uncle of Raiko from Shinrai, Shinketsu Kikai and Akira Ginmaku share surnames with Taiko and Misakinote , but it's unclear how they're related.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Genba lets one off when he's told that the demo is over.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Mizu does this at the end of the demo, leading to a scene in which the characters talk about the visual novel and its development.
Mizu: The chief told me about this earlier. This is apparently... the end of the demo.
  • Eaten Alive: The victim was apparently eaten by a T-Rex, which Genba is understandably skeptical about. It turns out that the victim was somehow put into the mouth of the T-Rex statue and "bitten" when it fell over.
  • Foregone Conclusion: Since Nobuhiko shows up in the denouement of Shinrai to interview the survivors, the slim possibility that he's the culprit or is guilty of any wrongdoing is rendered nonexistent due to the fact that he's on the force and not in jail unless he somehow ends up a Karma Houdini.
  • The Ghost: Yuuichirou Shinpuku, Nobuhiko's brother and Raiko's father, is mentioned as the inventor of the DPA, but doesn't show up, at least not in the demo.
  • Last-Name Basis: Since the main characters are police officers who have only just met rather than a group of teenagers who know each other well, most of the police officers in the cast use this. The notable exception is Kikai, who is instead The Nicknamer.
  • Oddly Small Organization: Genba is skeptical that Raptor Pack Productions can make movies with only four people, but it's noted that they have help from some others.
  • Self-Deprecation: When Mizu announces that the demo is over, she complains about the developers being "a bunch of slackers." That said, Terano and Ryuunosuke, both of whom have experience working on movies with a small group, points out that it will take Gosatsu Productions a long time with only two people who have day jobs.
  • Shout-Out:
    • When examining some amber with a mosquito inside, Keiichi wonders if you could clone dinosaurs with the blood of a mosquito, just like in Jurassic Park.
    • Mizu calls an overweight police officer who supposedly got ahead through sexual favors "Jabba the Slut."
  • Switching P.O.V.: While the demo only features Genba as a playable character, the actual game will allow you to switch between him, Mizu, Shirayuki and Kikai.
