Wulverblade is a Side-scrolling Beat 'em Up Action Game developed by Fully Illustrated and Darkwind Media, the latter of which also published the game.

The year is 120 AD, and the Romans have conquered the south of Britannia. Their goal is to bring the whole of the land under their kingdom's thumb, so now they're moving north into the rest of the country. However, the tribes of the north won't just sit idly by and let the 5000-strong Ninth Legion of Rome take over.

Enter the Guardians of the North - Caradoc, Brinnus, and Guinevere. Together, they intend to unite the tribes under their blades and push back the Roman Legion.

The game was released on October 12, 2017 for the Nintendo Switch, and on January 30, 2018 for other platforms.

Wulverblade contains examples of the following tropes:

  • An Arm and a Leg: Sometimes, limbs will come off of killed enemies.
  • Attack Animal: Once a level, you can sick wolves on the enemy.
  • Bald Head of Toughness: In addition to Caradoc and Brinnus, the game is full of bald-headed men who can throw down like nobody's business on both sides of the conflict.
  • Ground Pound: Attacking down from mid-air will cause the Player Character to lunge down and plant their sword in the ground.
  • Item-Drop Mechanic: Enemies you defeat drop weapons that you can pick up and use.
  • Life Meter: The playable characters' is in the top-left corner, enemy health bars show up in the top-right corner, and boss health bars take up the bottom of the screen.
  • Manly Facial Hair: Plenty to go around. Caradoc's is more profound than his brother's, but Brinnus is no slouch in the butt-whooping department.
  • Off with His Head!: Sometimes, killing an enemy will sever their head.
  • One-Word Title: The game's title, Wulverblade, is one word.
  • Timed Mission: Each level must be completed within a certain time limit.
  • Use Your Head: One of the attack moves the characters can do is grab an enemy and headbutt them multiple times.
