The Last Starship is a management strategy game from Introversion Software. Inspired by games like FTL: Faster Than Light, the player must build or purchase ships to carry out missions to earn money; to increase the capabilities of their ship and, eventually, acquire a small fleet. What those missions will primarily involve is up to the player; cargo transport, Colony Ship, mining operations or combat focused. All the while, in the background, a mysterious void consumes planetary systems; driving sentient life to escape to the outer reaches of the galaxy.

Following in the same development strategy of their previous title, Prison Architect, the game was released as an early-access build in July 2022 on Steam. The community will effectively play-test the game throughout it's development, provide feedback, ideas and potentially shape the outcome of the final product.

Provides examples of:

  • Asteroid Miners: One of the ways to gain resources is to mine asteroids to convert into more refined products.
  • Cool Starship: This serves as a core part of the game, as befitting the title. Designing and upgrading ships to either serve a jack of all trades role or a highly specialized role is up to the player.
  • Faster-Than-Light Travel: An FTL engine and special fuel is required to "jump" between star systems. It is independent of the standard engines.
  • Portal Network: One gameplay type involves the creation of a Stargate (No relation) and after reaching "phase three", environmentalists will attack you to hinder your progress.
  • Space Sector: The game is separated into sectors. As you jump between planets, the void starts enveloping other planets, limiting your options before you're forced to travel to the next sector.
  • Standard Sci-Fi Fleet: So far we already have hostile forces that can field fighter craft, medium ships akin to frigates, and "beasts" that behave more like battleship. The vast majority of neutral ships are transports or mining ships.
