''[[https://www.mcleodgaming.com/ Super Smash Flash]]'' is a series of [[UsefulNotes/AdobeFlash Flash-based]] PlatformFighter ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBros'' [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin clones]] by Creator/McLeodGaming, hosted and playable on [[http://www.mcleodgaming.com their website]].

The original ''[[https://www.mcleodgaming.com/games/ssf1 Super Smash Flash]]'', released in August 2006 on Website/{{Newgrounds}}, is somewhat weak; among other things featuring only one attack button[[note]]Although, not one attack, like most reviews of the game incorrectly state. The in-game tutorial even says that you can do up to five moves with it depending on how you use it[[/note]]. It was nonetheless notable for its large amount of unlockable content.

** High-level [=CPUs=] are very good at working in teams; they seem to be in perfect sync with their teammate. For example, if one plays against Mega Man and Captain Falcon: Mega Man will often try to grab the player if they're at high levels of damage, leaving them helpless against the nearby Captain Falcon performing a [[OhCrap reverse Falcon Punch.]] This works with almost any duo or [[NintendoHard trio.]]

* MercyInvincibility: While the ''Smash'' games weren't known for this, it becomes a point in the first ''Flash'' which also averts this in the worst possible way. Especially in Adventure Mode, where just ''brushing'' against an enemy in any level could result in your damage skyrocketing to maximum in a very short time, [[Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar Hundred Crack Fisting]] [[PunchedAcrossTheRoom you to death]]. A ''normal'' enemy can do this.

Added DiffLines:

* MultiSlotCharacter: Much like ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosMelee'', the first ''Super Smash Flash'' has two playable Links from ''[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime Ocarina of Time]]''; one being his adult form and his young form. Sonic is also playable in this game, alongside his Super Form as an unlockable separate fighter. Compared to normal Sonic, Super Sonic has higher jumps and damage output, but ironically has slower attacks and a larger hitbox.

* OffModel: Some of the [[NostalgiaLevel past stages]], notably Fourside, Temple, and Peach's Castle, are seriously off-scale compared to their ''Melee'' counterparts.

* SurprisinglyCreepyMoment:
** The 2nd Target Test stage from ''2'''s demo v0.9. It has depressing music, seems to be aesthetically based on ''VideoGame/{{Limbo}}'', and overall seems out of place in a ''Smash Bros.'' game.
** The ''Super Smash Flash 2 Beta'' stream at Super Smash Con 2016 on Saturday was very lighthearted and fun, even introducing [[Franchise/{{Kirby}} Bandana Dee]] as a character. Then, at 2 AM on Sunday morning, the stream unexpectedly started up again with an extremely mysterious [[https://www.twitch.tv/mcleodgaming/v/83525486 video]] featuring ''[[VideoGame/EarthBound1994 Giygas]]''. [[spoiler: This was foreshadowing Beta's inclusion of Devil's Machine, an unlockable stage based on the final battle of ''VideoGame/EarthBound1994''.]]

* UltimateShowdownOfUltimateDestiny: The first game is this, full stop, with characters like [[OriginalGeneration Blade]] and [[WesternAnimation/TheIncredibles Mr. Incredible]]. Traces of this sentiment remain in ''2'', at least in development; Cleod thinks that the anime characters fit in well (although the other developers don't), and he has a personal soft spot for the {{Original Character}}s who were planned to be in but had to be removed due to losing contact with their creators.

* AwesomeButImpractical: Black Mage's fully charged Smash attacks are improved from his uncharged ones to hit a wide area and deal impressive damage and knockback. However, the sheer delay of charging the attacks makes using them difficult, and the side smash, Thundaga, has an awkward alternating hitbox that means skilled opponents can just weave through it anyways, while Blizzaga, the down smash, still has its hitboxes entirely ground-based.

Loads And Loads Of Characters is no longer a trope

* LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters: ''Super Smash Flash'' has 28 characters (30 if Meta Knight and Shiek are counted). ''Super Smash Flash 2'' has more than that in its ''starter'' roster, ''and it's not even finished yet''.

* LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters: The list of playable characters, both pre-revision and post-revision, is impressive for a fan game.
