The third game in the ''Franchise/RatchetAndClank'' series.

Ratchet And Clank return to their home galaxy (revealed to be named the Solana Galaxy) where they face off against Dr. {{N|amesToRunAwayFromReallyFast}}efarious, a MadScientist and robot supremacist who also happens to be a former foe of Captain Qwark. The two reluctantly track down and team up with the disgraced superhero in order to thwart Dr. Nefarious's scheme to turn everyone in the galaxy into his robotic slaves.

----
!!This game contains examples of:
* AbsurdlySpaciousSewer: The labyrinth of a sewer beneath Dr. Nefarious's base on Aquatos.
* ActorRoleConfusion: Dr. Nefarious believes Clank is a ''real'' secret agent.
* AsteroidsMonster: The Ameboids, returning from the first game.
* BareYourMidriff: Courtney Gears.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: An in-game meta example. The Annihilation Nation announcer says that most people know Ratchet as Secret Agent Clank's bumbling chauffeur. Said bumbling chauffeur then goes and blows a ton of crap up in the arena with weapons as big as he is.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Dr. Nefarious may be a LargeHam villain that is LaughablyEvil and gets frequently snarked at by Lawrence without knowing it, but he can summon what looks like dark {{Magitek}} and is a formidable villain in both of his boss battles.
* BigDamnHeroes: [[spoiler:Captain Qwark]] of all people pulls this off at the end of the game, just in time to [[spoiler:save Ratchet from getting killed by the Bio-bliterator.]]
** Before that, [[spoiler: The Galactic Rangers show up midway through the final battle to aid Ratchet in fighting Nefarious' robots.]]
* BondOneLiner: Appropriately enough, Clank gets one in the "Secret Agent Clank" films at the beginning and end of the game. Clank [[spoiler:(or rather Klunk)]] also gets one after the Courtney Gears boss battle.
-->'''Clank [[spoiler:(Klunk)]]''' "One disposable pop star... disposed."
* BoomerangBigot: Dr. Nefarious hates "squishies" [[spoiler: despite formerly being one himself]].
* BossRemix: The boss theme for the fight against [[spoiler: Courtney Gears]] is a remix of "Death to Squishies".
* BrainUploading: [[spoiler: A cross between this and WeCanRebuildHim is what caused Nefarious to become the robot he is now after a horrible accident at the hands of Qwark while he was still human, though it's never quite explained which is more accurate.]]
* CallBack:
** The Amoeboids from ''[[VideoGame/RatchetAndClank2002 Ratchet & Clank]]'' are revealed to have been an early galactic domination/destruction ploy by Dr. Nefarious (making their appearance then something like {{Foreshadowing}} for him).
** Also in the 4th Vidcomic you visit Qwark's training course as Qwark.
** In Metropolis, there's a Skill Point called "2002 was a good year in the city" for blowing up the Qwark Blimp. 2002 was the release year of the original ''Ratchet & Clank'', which also features a Skill Point for blowing up the same blimp in the same city.
** Several enemies from the original game and ''[[VideoGame/RatchetAndClankGoingCommando Going Commando]]'' make a cameo in the opening cutscene as pieces on Ratchet and Clank's board game.
** [[LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters Just about everyone]] [[CrowdedCastShot from the first three games]] is in the cinema watching the Secret Agent Clank movie at the end of the game.
* ChangedMyMindKid: Ratchet and Clank find Captain Qwark [[spoiler:after he faked his death so he wouldn't have to actually risk his life, and are unable to convince him to continue fighting. Later on, in the final boss battle, he comes dramatically sailing in on his spaceship, pumping rounds into the boss.]]
* ChaosArchitecture: Veldin, barring the location where Ratchet's garage is, looks absolutely ''nothing'' like it did in the original game, having a completely different level layout and desert like appearance. While the desert like atmosphere could have been an effect of the Tyhrranoid invasion, it still fails to explain how the geography could undergo such a rapid change in the year and a half Ratchet was gone from Veldin.
** In the first game small floating islands are encountered, which would give a reason for accelerated change of geography: the ground seen is actually floating and able to move.
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: One of the vid-comics shows Qwark stowing away on Nefarious' spaceship by clinging onto it for dear life, and survives the six-day space travel by ''holding his breath the whole trip.'' While it sounds like something Qwark would embellish, the game ''Size Matters'' would retroactively reveal that he could actually do this.
** TruthInTelevision: Surprisingly, it technically ''is'' possible to hold your breath in the vacuum of space, but there would be far more hazards in space to put up with alongside it, and it would be incredibly difficult (and [[TooDumbToLive obviously, extremely dangerous]]) and only possible for a very brief period of time, and it would be completely useless ([[ExplosiveDecompression and outright lethal]]) in the context Qwark pulled it off in.
* ChekhovsArmoury:
** Courtney Gears appears for the first time when you first win on Annihilation Nation, before you discover her role in [[spoiler: Nefarious's plot]].
** The Tyrrha-guise is only used in a single area, then comes back in the final level, where the Tyrrhanoids are back, and a lot smarter.
** On your first visit to the Phoenix you can see areas off to the side of the lift platform with no way to access them, [[spoiler:then the ship gets attacked at the end of the game and the lift is destroyed opening up those areas as an alternate route]].
* ClassicCheatCode: There are some in the original and HD remake of the game, all of which are entered in the Pause Menu.
** Laser Sword: Circle, Square, Circle, Square, Up, Down, Left, Left [[note]]this cheat is the only one that appeared in the original.[[/note]]
** [[VideoGame/ApeEscape Pipo-Saru Ratchet]]: Up, Down, Up, Down, Left, Left, Right, Right, Square Square, Square [[note]]Originally appeared in the Japanese version of the original[[/note]]
** Santa Ratchet: Up, Down, Up, Down, Square, Square, Square [[note]]Originally appeared in the Japanese version of the original[[/note]]
** Weapons and Gadgets: Up, Down, Up, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Square. Now enter the weapons or gadgets menu and press L3 on things to unlock or relock them.
** All Planets: Up, Down, Up, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Circle. [[note]]Be careful, you might brick your save file if you mess around too much.[[/note]]
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: Shows up every now and then. The first instance occurs when Ratchet finds Al using a city's defense system to play a video game. Ratchet asks Al how he could do such a thing, and Al responds by listing the steps he took to hack into the system, instead of answering why he would use an important installation for such an irrelevant activity.
* CoughSnarkCough: The narrator does this at the end of the first Qwark Vid-Comic, the one with the robotic pirate ghosts.
-->''"The exciting, all true, *cough* right *cough* adventures of Captain Qwark continue in Episode 2."''
* CurseCutShort:
** There are a ''lot''. The most well-known is probably this one:
--->[[spoiler:'''Klunk:''']] What a load of bull--
--->'''Ratchet:''' Shhh!
** From the Giant Clank section of the filming of ''Secret Agent Clank'':
--->'''Director:''' That's it Clank! Kick his- *microphone feedback*
* DeadpanSnarker: Lawrence, quite so. He almost always has a witty comeback to Nefarious' remarks.
-->'''Dr. Nefarious''': To think, they called me insane, Lawrence! We'll see who's insane after my pets have exterminated all life on this miserable planet!
-->'''Lawrence''': That should clear things right up, sir.
* DeathCourse: First in Florana, and later, taken UpToEleven, in Annihilation Nation. Ratchet himself even provides the page quote for this trope.
* DeveloperRoom: The Insomniac Museum, again.
* DistressedDude: [[spoiler:Clank.]]
* DoubleEntendre: The title, a common trend in the series. [[labelnote:Hint]]Up Your ''ARSE''nal.[[/labelnote]]
* TheDragon: [[spoiler:Courtney Gears]].
* DualWielding: Ratchet wields two wrenches whenever he uses an Inferno Power crate, although it's mainly cosmetic. The regular swing is the same speed, the Hyper-Strike has no special effect, you only throw one wrench with the Comet-Strike, and you can't swing the one wrench left in your hands during the Comet-Strike either.
* EmbarrassingNickname: [[spoiler:Courtney Gears]] calls Dr. Nefarious "Snookie Wookums".
* EyeOnAStalk: The Tyhrranoids' most prominent feature is a varying number of prominent eyestalks, ranging from one to nine. The more eyes they have, the stronger they are.
* FanDisservice: Qwark when he's disguised as a maid delivering a pizza to Dr. Nefarious in the third vidcomic. The pic gives you a clear view of his fishnet stockings and undergarments. This happens again later when Qwark disguises himself as a top-heavy woman while calling a Taxi Cab, and again with the Tutu cheat code for the Vid-comics.
* FaceHeelTurn:
** [[spoiler:Courtney Gears]] pulls this off.
** For a while, Clank's [[spoiler:red eyes and evil grin]] may look like he might pull this off, himself. [[spoiler:Of course, we later learn he is not really Clank]].
* FakeStatic: During the first trip to Aquatos, Ratchet and Clank get a call from the ''Secret Agent Clank'' director, who tries to get Clank to come back to the studio to film some more. Ratchet responds by doing this, to which the director points out that he can see Ratchet. Ratchet then does the obvious thing and hangs up on him.
* FakeUltimateMook: Despite looking intimidating, King Amoeboids are downright pathetic (and VERY easy to one-hit kill) once your weapons are decently leveled. You can even use the Quack-O-Ray on them for D.I.Y NightmareRetardant. Hell, you can even kill them with ONE wrench swing, even in Challenge Mode!
* FantasticRacism: Dr. Nefarious hates "squishies".
* FiveBadBand
** BigBad: Dr. Nefarious
** TheDragon: Lawrence
** TheDarkChick: [[spoiler:Courtney Gears]]
** TheMole: [[spoiler: Klunk]]
* FiveManBand
** Q-Force, how Qwark sees it:
*** TheHero: Qwark
*** TheLancer: Skrunch, Qwark's monkey
*** TheSmartGuy: Al, a master of electronics
*** TheBigGuy: Skidd, who has "nerves of steel"
*** TheChick: Helga, the "seductress"
*** SixthRanger: Ratchet
** And the reality:
*** TheHero: Ratchet, who does all the work (of course).
*** TheLancer: Clank
*** TheSmartGuy: Al and Skidd, Al helps with computer work while Skidd provides support with gadgets.
*** TheBigGuy: Qwark, who is actually pretty gung-ho on stopping Nefarious, even if he is making Ratchet do it.
*** TheChick: Sasha, the voice of Mission Control.
*** TeamPet: Skrunch, who ''does'' help Clank out now and then.
*** TheLoad: Helga, who does nothing except give you a ForcedTutorial that even Ratchet notes is a waste of time. Though she does give you a Hypershot and a Hacker.
*** SixthRanger [[spoiler:[[SixthRangerTraitor Traitor]]]]: Courtney Gears
* FurAndLoathing: Evil robot IdolSinger Courtney Gears says "You'll make a nice fur coat" when Ratchet fights her as a boss.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: There's enough hints that [[spoiler:Clank is NotHimself]] that upon seeing Nefarious [[spoiler:with Clank]], Ratchet immediately realizes [[spoiler:there's an EvilTwin about]], and promptly feels dumb for not picking up on it sooner.
--> '''Ratchet''': Hey, Clank, look! It's Dr. Nefarious! And that butler guy! And [[spoiler:they've got Clank! They're, uh, holding you prisoner. How about that? I guess I should be feeling pretty stupid right now. I don't suppose there's any chance ''he's'' the evil Clank?]]
* GettingCrapPastTheRadar: Aside from what's in [[Radar/RatchetAndClank this page]]:
** "I can't! You're my cousin's uncle's sister...ooh!"
** And having a [[StealthPun Morph-O-Ray go off in your pants.]]
* GiantSpaceFleaFromNowhere: The Warship boss in the Daxx docks. It pursues the player around the docks until it has them cornered just before the small holovid chamber, has no dialogue or seeming purpose, does not affect anything except its specific area of locale, is never mentioned or alluded to before or after its defeat, and no one seems to be manning it. The most that can be gathered is that it's a test of one of the weapons being developed there, but even that is never brought up or foreshadowed.
* GratuitousNinja: Invoked and lampshaded in the Annihilation Nation round "Ninja Challenge", with the apt description "Defeat all the Gladiators! Now with Ninjas!"
* HiddenDepths: Lawrence [[SugarWiki/FunnyMoments plays bass guitar]].
* HurricaneKick: Courtney Gears and her backup dancers.
* IgnoredEnamoredUnderling: Courtney Gears.
* InnocentInnuendo:
-->'''Galactic President''': My daughter says you're a man who's good with his hands, Ratchet.\\
'''Ratchet''': Sir, I swear, I NEVER...
* InterfaceSpoiler:
** When you first go to the sewers of Aquatos, if you look at the map, you'll probably notice some Gadgetron vendor icons floating out in the middle of nowhere, which clues you in to the fact that there's more to the sewers than you may think.
** There's one Skill Point that you get at a level called [[spoiler:Qwark's Hideout]], making it clear that a certain someone isn't actually dead.
* LampshadedDoubleEntendre: Referencing Courtney Gears.
-->'''Clank''': Her specifications were remarkable.\\
'''Ratchet''': Well, she's not the hottest pop star in the Galaxy because of her singing.
* LaughablyEvil: Dr. Nefarious. Between his repeated breakdowns, his LargeHam tendencies, and the snark leveled at him by Lawrence, he's easily one of the funniest characters in the series.
* LimitBreak: Inferno Power, which gives Ratchet immunity to all attacks, flaming armor, and two wrenches.
* LovableCoward: The Galactic Rangers
** [[spoiler: And they still get to pull a surprisingly awesome BigDamnHeroes moment in the finale.]]
* MostDefinitelyNotAVillain: Ratchet goes undercover with the Tyrrhaguise.
** {{Lampshade|Hanging}}d on at least one occasion.
---> '''Tyrrhanoid Guard:''' You have no clearance. How do I know I can trust you?
---> '''Ratchet:''' Because I'll give you my sister's phone number, and because I'm certainly not a Lombax.
* MyFriendsAndZoidberg: "Ladies and gentlemen...oh, and Helga"
** Funny thing is, it fits, since she actually is miffed until she is added onto the list. Most likely because her athletic and bodybuilder tendencies cause her not to view herself as a "lady".
** Could also be because she's a robot and therefore neither.
* MyHovercraftIsFullOfEels: Failing the conversation minigame while wearing the Tyhrraguise can result in Ratchet saying, among other things, "Orange croutons zoom zoom butterscotch" and "[[Film/MontyPythonAndTheHolyGrail I emit a noxious effluvium in your general direction]]!"
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: Courtney Gears is an obvious spoof of singers like BritneySpears.
** Some also feel that the Galactic President resembles UsefulNotes/BillClinton (especially his voice).
* NoRespectGuy: Poor Ratchet. People only see him as the incompetent chauffeur he plays as in "[[ShowWithinAShow Secret Agent Clank]]," despite having saved two galaxies in the past. He's also forced to do all the legwork in stopping Dr. Nefarious, and Clank and Qwark tend to reap all the credit.
* OldSaveBonus: If you import a ''[[VideoGame/RatchetAndClank2002 Ratchet & Clank]]'' save, you get the Gadgetron employee discount mentioned in said game (the one that takes two years to kick in). Also, having a ''[[VideoGame/RatchetAndClankGoingCommando Going Commando]]'' save with certain guns obtained in it will let you get those guns for free.
* OldShame: In-Universe, the unreleased Vid-Comic 5 is this to Qwark, as [[spoiler:it reveals that after beating Dr. Nefarious, he was knocked out by Lawrence and subsequently captured.]] It was so embarrassing for him that he attempted to end the series at the fourth part.
* OrwellianEditor: In-Universe, Qwark attempts this with the Vid-Comic series, either altering or taking out parts where he was less than heroic, going as far as attempting to eliminate the [[OldShame fifth episode]] entirely.
* PeninsulaOfPowerLeveling: The sewers on Aquatos. There are ''hundreds'', if not thousands of ameoboids throughout the level, they're easily dispatched, and they attack in narrow corridors where you can see them coming. This makes it the perfect place to level up weapons.
* {{Pun}}: The Skill Point for blowing up the blimp in Kerwan is called "2002 was a [[http://www.goodyearblimp.com/ good year]] in the city".
* RaisedHandOfSurvival: Dr. Nefarious' return as a robot is heralded by his robotic arm rising from a scrap heap.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: [[spoiler: "Clank" (actually Klunk) gains these when he's been replaced by an evil version of himself, unbeknownst to Ratchet.]]
* RiseToTheChallenge: The fifth Vid-Comic features this, with a steadily rising level of frigid water.
* SetAMookToKillAMook:The Infector shoots green blobs that brainwashes enemies to fight their comrades.
* SequelHook: [[spoiler:It's made very clear that Nefarious and Lawrence survived the blast at the end of the game.]]
* ShowWithinAShow: Secret Agent Clank and Annihilation Nation.
* SolidGoldPoop: Sewer crystals come "fresh from the bowels" of the King Amoeboids.
* StealthInsult: [[DeadpanSnarker Lawrence]] gives us this gem in Metropolis:
-->'''Lawrence''': ''[To Nefarious]'' You put the "wit" in "twit", sir.
* StealthPun: When Captain Qwark first encountered the Amoeboids he immediately executed emergency response plan [[BringMyBrownPants "number 2"]].
* SummonBackupDancers: One of [[spoiler:Courtney Gears']] moves during their battle.
* TheVoice: The Annihilation Nation announcer.
* ThousandYardStare: The arena announcer says Ratchet has one of these.
* TookALevelInBadass: [[spoiler:The Galactic Rangers finally overcome their cowardice and come in guns blazing to assist Ratchet in the final battle. And unlike in previous missions where they "aided" you, they're much more powerful, nearly [[OneHitKill 1-shotting]] all the mooks thrown at you.]]
* UndersideRide: Captain Qwark does this on one of Dr. Nefarious' cargo ships (in a Qwark Vid-Comic flashback) which is PlayedForLaughs since he's in space without a spacesuit having to hold his breath.
* UnexpectedGameplayChange: The Qwark vid-comics. To proceed through the game, at various points you have to play through a side-scrolling platformer.
* UnwillingRoboticisation: Nefarious's plan to turn all of the galaxy's organic life into robots.
* VideoGameSettings

* VileVillainLaughableLackey: An interesting variation where the villain is truly evil and a threat, but is nevertheless the target of the jokes from his lackey: Dr. Nefarious wants to exterminate all organic life, but he has a henchman named Lawrence who [[ServileSnarker isn't afraid to snark at him]].
* VillainSong: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6JNhWfejAQ Death to Squishies]], [[spoiler:Courtney Gears]]' [[LyricalDissonance peppy little]] declaration of robotic genocidal hate.
* WakeUpCallBoss: Courtney Gears is no pushover when you fight her in the middle of the game. She won't allow you to replenish ammo at first, because the pre-battle cutscene will automatically trigger upon reaching the end of [[BossCorridor the corridor]], and unlike with [[spoiler:Masked!Qwark]], Momma Tyhrranoid, and Klunk, ammo and nanotech creates only spawn whenever you enter a new stage.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Dr. Nefarious's plan is to [[UnwillingRoboticisation turn every organic lifeform in the galaxy into robots]], and he actually succeeds in doing so to Skidd [=McMarxx=] and everyone in Metropolis. Later in the game, Al is seen analyzing Skidd and remarking that it may be possible to reverse the process, but it is never really stated whether Al succeeds or not. Granted, Skidd does make a very brief appearance in the cinema at the end of the game, back to his normal self, suggesting Al did cure him and everyone in Metropolis.
* WhoWritesThisCrap: The narrator from the vid-comics in the their game, expressing his disbelief on Qwark's supposed "adventures". Considering Qwark wrote the scripts, one can't blame him.
* WidelySpacedJailBars: There is a containment area on the Starship Phoenix with bars like these. The PlayerCharacter actually can walk between the bars, but the [[NonPlayerCharacter NPCs]] in there never think of escaping this way.
