OneTale is a Game Mod for Undertale based on the game OneShot that makes various changes to the game. For starters, every instance of Frisk has been replaced with Niko, the Pie has now become the Pancake, and the dialogue sound is ripped straight out of OneShot. Even MEGALOVANIA gets a complete double overhaul.

Being a mod, this game still holds similar tropes to Undertale. These will not be listed here, but if it comes to it, all Undertale spoilers will be spoiled, as since you have downloaded a mod, of which you can do here, one would presume you've already beaten the game before. OneShot spoilers will be hidden due to the events of the Solstice route weighing heavily on the events of the mod.

OneTale contains examples of:

  • Above Good and Evil: You. The player. If you finish a Genocide route, The World Machine will even call you out on this front.
  • Above the Gods: Invoked in the Genocide route. After the world is destroyed, The Author, who should be below you in the context of OneShot is the one to bring back the world.
  • A Child Shall Lead Them: Invoked more clearly with Niko than it ever was with Frisk, due Word of God claiming that Niko is canonically 8-years-old, whilst Frisk's age has never been specified, outside of it being made quite clear that they're a minor.
  • Actionized Sequel: Technically. This mod is a loose sequel to the events of the Solstice route in OneShot, a game with no combat.
  • Adaptational Badass: The World Machine in the Genocide route. If you complete a Genocide run, the World Machine will not only destroy the world, but it will also call you out on the fact that since you killed everyone in this world, would you have killed ''Niko'' too, on your last adventure, given the chance? Whatever your answer, since you're not able to give one, the World Machine assumes it's yes, and rains Hell on you.
  • Adaptational Protagonist: Niko is the mod's protagonist, not Frisk.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Technically, player invoked. You are free to call the World Machine anything you desire, although, if you want to pull an Undertale and name yourself the equivalent to "Chara", it's "TWM".
  • Adaptation Personality Change: Much like Adaptational Badass above, complete a Genocide run, and not only will The World Machine hate you to its core, but the Author gets a personality for once after the world is destroyed, and Niko, during the Sans fight, will begin to turn on you and BEG you to stop. After you kill Sans and check your stats, their portrait is staring daggers at you.
  • Adaptation Title Change: OneShot + Undertale = OneTale.
  • Adapted Out: Any mention to Frisk, the Butterscotch Cinnamon Pie, and any and all OneShot characters, bar Niko, the World Machine and the Author.
  • Addressing the Player: Done a few times in the Genocide run. Niko, when Sans "spares" them, will beg you, going so far as to use your PC name, to stop. The same result happens if you equip the Knife. On the slightly other side, you have the "Would you kill ''Niko'' too, given the chance?" from the World Machine not long afterwards.
  • After the End: Played straight in the fact that this takes place immediately after the Solstice route.
  • Call-Back: One of the phrases after you die can be "[You killed Niko.]" This, paired with the shattered lightbulb/sun replacing the O in Over is a direct reference to the ending of the freeware version of OneShot, where if you quit at any time before entering a bed, Niko would die.
