Memento Mori

Mue is a French short, first-person horror game created by university students within four months in collaboration with the NAD and DIM.

Set in 1890, the protagonist, Alicia, wakes up in a gloomy building and explores a twisting maze where increasingly terrifying events unfold. From there, she has to follow the thread and find the courage to confront her fear of aging brought to life.

Mue contains these examples:

  • Age Insecurity: The theme of the game revolves around confronting anxieties of aging.
  • Body Horror: The environment of the building doesn't shy away from displaying symbols of aging and the fears that accompany it, and the women displayed as statues have visible horrific disfigurements on their bodies.
  • Cower Power: To evade the crone searching for them, Alicia hid under the bed after crawling out of a secret tunnel.
  • The Hecate Sisters: The portrait recurring in the game up until the end presented three women of seemingly differing age and style of clothing.
  • Old, Dark House: Alicia finds herself in an old house that winds like a maze, complete with little light to see anything and unsettling horrors that either simply scare her or is out to kill her.
