MCSX - Minecraft: PS1 Edition (also known as Minecraft PSX) is a mod-pack for Minecraft that aims to represent the game as if it was released on the PlayStation back in 2009... with the extra addition of some scary things that lay beneath the surface.

The mod-pack can be downloaded here. Note that it recommends that you also download and add OptiFine to the mod files to add the era appropriate aesthetic, which is not available by default.

This mod-pack provides examples of:

  • Adaptation Amalgamation: This mod-pack takes the vanilla game in 1.18.2, reuses assets from the alpha/beta builds, and adds additional features from the console versions, complete with (recommended) controller support for a more authentic console experience.
  • Balance Buff:
    • The 1.9 attack cool-down has been removed; you can swing your sword rapidly without any diminishing of your damage.
    • Chest loot tables have better items/spawn chances for the dungeons.
    • Experience gained is lost to a lesser extent upon death.
  • Creepy Changing Painting: Any painting that's placed/spawned into the world may suddenly change for a split second when being looked at.
  • Disguised Horror Story: While at a glance it appears to be nothing more than a Video Game Demake for Minecraft that doubles as a Vanilla+ type mod-pack, the description reading like a second-person Creepypasta indicates there's more going on here. Play the game long enough, you'll experience some horror-themed random events and possibly encounter a fair share of dangerous blocky entities.
  • Foreshadowing: One of the screenshots of the download page is a series of trees without their leaf blocks, one of the hallmark traits of Herobrine influencing the player world.
  • Life Meter: While functionally identical to vanilla, the health, food and armor indicators is represented in this fashion in the bottom right corner instead of as a row of icons that fill or empty by halves.
  • Multi-Disk Work: In-Universe, the PS1 game comes with three different disks to load the different dimensions, the disks being "Overworld", "The Slip", and "The End". In-game, the process of transitioning between dimensions is just the same as vanilla Minecraft without any extra steps, since it'd be rather difficult for a mod of a PC game to emulate that function.
  • Mythology Gag: The Nether is referred in the mod description and some screenshot images as "The Slip", something the game's creator initially wanted to call the dimension in the oldest versions.
  • Nerf:
    • The mending enchantment is removed — no more tools automatically repairing itself via experience.
    • Enforced with the Elytra's travel speed being reduced, not only to balance it but to also prevent the player from seeing any loading chunks — the reason being that PS1 games would've done similar measures to account for slow loading.
    • The effectiveness of armor has been reduced, though only to an extent that you'd still want it for safety.
    • Regenerating Health is made a lot slower.
  • Random Event: Exclusive to this mod-pack is a variety of randomly occurring events meant to catch the player off guard. This includes:
  • Static Screw: On a very rare occasion, the player's view will be taken over with static, just to catch you off guard.
