A Badass Space Marine kicking ass while in pink? Now that's something you don't see that every day...

Max Maverick, our Hero.
In this story, fights with alien creatures that have invaded his planet from an unknown world.

Isolated Warrior is a 1991 Isometric Projection Run-and-Gun game for the Nintendo Entertainment System, developed by KID and published by Vap (Japan), NTVIC (North America), and Nintendo (Europe).

Captain Max Maverick is the only survivor after a battle between earth's forces against an alien army goes south. Escaping from his captors in space and into an alien city, Max is cornered by hostile alien minions and alien monstrosities all over the streets, and he must seek out survivors while battling enemies left and right before facing the alien leader in his space base.

Gameplay-wise and already mentioned above, Isolated Warrior plays out from an Isometric Projection angle, exactly the same as Zaxxon and Viewpoint, though your character is on foot instead of on a spaceship. Modes include on foot, jetpacks, and motorcycles across six levels, leading from the destroyed city to laboratories and the alien base.

"I was the sole survivor of the force. I could have chose to escape from that planet. But I chose not to..."

  • Alien Invasion: According to the backstory, at least. It wraps up an Excuse Plot so that Max can just go straight to kicking ass.
  • Attack Drone: A recurring enemy type, which hovers around the area while taking potshots at Max. It goes down in only one hit though.
  • Auto-Scrolling Level: The levels where Max is kicking alien ass while on a motorcycle or jetpack, and shooting everything in his way.
  • Big Bad: The unnamed alien leader who kickstarted the invasion, which Max destroys in the final stage, in a high-octane flying battle in the depths of space.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: Giant flying insect enemies are a recurring minor enemy.
  • Blob Monster: There are levels where the floors and walls are coated with muck. And sometimes, these muck will actually take on a monstrous form and attack Max.
  • Brain Monster: The boss of the underground facility is a giant throbbing brain, who somehow constructed a mechanical skull-like face around itself. As soon as Max start shooting, it's skull then covers it as the boss attacks Max, and can only be killed by shooting at the brain's scalp.
  • The Captain: Max is one for his team of Space Marines in the backstory, but unfortunately he's also the only surviving member.
  • Creepy Centipedes: The first boss is a giant centipede sticking out of a cave to attack Max.
  • David Versus Goliath: Max can take down alien battleships and war machines, whose sprites takes up more than half the screen, while he's on his own.
  • Deflector Shields: Max can obtain personal shields to absorb hits from alien projectiles.
  • Double Jump: Max can do this while on foot to hop over obstacles that a single jump couldn't. Presumably his suit have some anti-gravity devices built in it.
  • Epic Flail: The first alien Praetorian Guard Max fights in the final stage uses a flail that can cover quite a bit of distance, rather than projectile weapons. He's also the last.
  • Jet Pack: The second stage have Max flying on one as he hovers atop a river while shooting at alien enemies. Said jetpaack returns in the infiltration stage when Max fights his way through the alien leader's forces, culminating in an epic flying battle between him and the leader.
  • Meat Moss: As a result of an alien infestation, the interiors of most buildings are covered in a flesh-like structure overgrown everywhere, with occasional alien eggs attached to them.
  • Password Save: How this game's progress is saved for replays.
  • Praetorian Guard: The alien leader have a legion of humanoid guards that shows up only in the final stage, appearing outside his quarters, that serves as his personal guards.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: It's hard to tell from either the cover or graphics, but Max's armor looks closer to magenta or dark pink. Real fitting for a badass captain and alien-slaying soldier.
  • Sentry Gun: The alien leader's base is filled with automated turrets that fires upon any intruders.
  • Sole Survivor: One that the game actually spells out onscreen.
CONFIRMED: Captain Max Maverick is the only survivor of the Special Forces.
  • Spread Shot: One of the power-ups allows Max to fire a spread of five bullets, four branching off his left and right.
  • Stationary Boss: The second boss is a massive alien battle platform built into a riverbed and covered by turrets. As Max is currently on a jetpack he can fly circles around the boss while shooting at it.
  • Title Drop: In the final cutscene after Max defeats the alien leader and rebuilds society, he then records his adventures in his log, titled "Isolated Warrior".
