Dungeons & Dragons: Warriors of the Eternal Sun is an RPG developed for the Sega Genesis in 1992 by Westwood Associates. The game tells the story of a party of adventurers who have been transported to an unknown world and must survive against its hostile inhabitants while learning about their new home and seeking allies. It is based on the Dungeons & Dragons game rules, and uses creatures and themes from its Hollow World campaign setting, such as Blacklore elves, the Azcans beastmen, Malpheggi lizardmen, and dinosaurs.

The story opens with Duke Barrik's army under attack from goblin hordes. Suddenly, the sky tears open and both armies are sucked into the void. Duke Barrik's castle is transported to a valley enclosed with impossibly tall cliffs and a brilliant red sun overhead (the "Eternal Sun" of the title). The goblins are nowhere to be seen, but it's very much 'out of the frying pan and into the fire' for the Duke's people as they are stranded in this new world. The Duke requests that the four player characters explore this strange environment to find allies.

Dungeons and Dragons: Warriors of the Eternal Sun contains examples of these tropes:

  • Convection, Schmonvection: Averted hard. Trying to explore the volcanic area without suitable magical protection will cause the party to rapidly lose health until they drop dead.

  • Endless Daytime: The characters' city is transported to a strange land where the sun never sets, forcing them to find a way to teleport everyone back home. As the game progresses, the townsfolk slowly start going insane from the unceasing daylight.

  • Grave Humor: The cemetery is filled with fun epitaphs. They also show the villagers' faith in your party - there are four unfilled graves reserved for each of your party members.

  • Hollow World: Where the game is set, hence the red sun being always present. This hollow world is used as a museum for ancient civilizations from the surface world.
