Numa Pompilius was the second legendary king of Rome, succeeding Romulus. According to Roman tradition, he reigned from 715 BC to 673 BC. Numa is often depicted as a wise and peaceful ruler, known for his piety and devotion to religious matters.

Numa is credited with instituting important religious and cultural reforms in Rome. He established many of the city's religious institutions, including the office of Pontifex Maximus, which was responsible for overseeing religious rituals and practices.
