- What Could Have Been:
- In the earliest demos of the game, the Flip Side levels were quite literally the same levels with the same objectives as the Front Side versions, but seen from behind, and when playing in co-op, players had the ability to flip the camera to shoot from behind the level instead of in front by having both Yoshis ground pound at the same time. In the final game, Flip Side levels start at the end and task the player with finding the 3 Poochy Pups and reaching the goal at the beginning, and the manual camera-flipping has been scrapped entirely.
- The Gator Train boss fight in the E3 2017 trailer is drastically different than the one in the final game. It has Yoshi on a more darker atmospheric arena and was on foot rather than the Traintop Battle it was fought at with a more brighter vibrant forest area.

, the game takes place in a kindergarten class in the Mario universe, with the diorama-like settings being made by Baby Mario and Baby Peach.
