- Dueling Games: With Back 4 Blood. The Aftermath expansion DLC was set to be released right around Back 4 Blood release date. Given various problems with the launch state and servers for Back 4 Blood, along with bigger price tag and eventual disappointing reception, WWZ won the duel.
- Newbie Boom: Three, in fact
- The game was for free on Epic Games Store between 26th of March and 2nd of April 2020. With coronavirus pandemic isolation in the background, the active playerbase exploded.
- To a lesser degree, release of the Game of the Year edition, especially when it was discounted to at least three dollars for the upgrade version (intended to be used for the now-delisted Standard Edition that was given away for free) caused influx of new players, but nowhere near the level of the previous spike.
- The release of the Aftermath DLC predictably brought yet another wave of new players, causing a spike so high the servers barely held.
