- Development Hell: An American remake of this has been in the planning stages for a long time, with such names bandied about as Jane Fonda, Madonna, and Paula Prentiss, but nothing has ever come of it. There was, however, a Broadway musical version that came out in 2010.
- Hostility on the Set: Though Carmen Maura had been part of Pedro Almodóvar's Production Posse, having appeared in his previous six films, the two had a falling out during the making of this film, and would not work together again for another 18 years, until Volver.
- Real-Life Relative: As noted on the main page (see Creator Cameo), Agustin Almodovar, Pedro's brother and the producer of the movie, appears as an architect whom Pepa meets with, and Pedro and Agustin's mother also appears briefly as a newscaster.
- What Could Have Been: Victoria Abril turned down the part of Candela.
