Trivia / When Taekwondo Strikes

Go To

  • Cast the Expert: Taekwondo master Lee Chung-tung is played by Jhoon Rhee, one of the most famous taekwondo practitioners in the world at the time.
  • Fake Nationality: With the exception of Jhoon Rhee, most of the Korean and Japanese characters are played by ethnically-Chinese actors. In an ironic twist, two of the Japanese villains are played by Korean actors (Hwang In-shik and Kim Ki-joo).
  • Playing Gertrude: Andre Morgan as Father Lewis. The character is supposed to be middle-aged (vis-a-vie a rather unconvincing gray wig and fake beard), but Morgan was only in his early twenties when he played the role. He's actually two years younger than the actress playing his daughter.
  • What Could Have Been: The film was originally conceived by Bruce Lee after he met Jhoon Rhee at a martial arts event in Los Angeles. Lee set the project up at Golden Harvest, and had even planned to help out with the fight choreography, but passed away before filming started.
