• Accidentally-Correct Writing: Sauron having a humanoid form (and there it stops). The idea of him being nothing but a Giant Eye of Doom came later. His human form was shown in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor where the Maiar Himself appears out-and-about as The Black Hand. It may well be the In-Universe writers knew this, but since everything else got put through a blender and Sauron spends the whole book as an absentee antagonist (moreover, it's only a single line midway through The Two Towers that states Sauron is humanoid), we can't give them the credit.
