Trivia / Uh-Oh (David Byrne Album)

Go To

  • Based on a Dream: According to a 1992 information kit, "Monkey Man" was inspired by a dream Byrne had about a soldier returning home to see that his country's regressed rather than progressed, leading him to determine that human evolution's gone backwards.
  • Writer Revolt: Uh-Oh was one of the last Compact Discs to be packaged in a "longbox", a cardboard sleeve much taller than the disc itself — the format was initially conceived so that music stores could file CDs and records in the same bins, and was also considered a theft deterrent, but was eventually phased out as it was considered needlessly expensive to produce and environmentally wasteful. While some artists refused to let their albums be packaged this way altogether, Byrne just had the following sticker affixed to the longbox of his album:
    THIS IS GARBAGE.
(This box, that is). The American record business insists on it though. If you agree that it's wasteful, let your store management know how you feel.
