Trivia / UGK

  • Creator's Favorite Song: Pimp C was especially proud of "Diamonds & Wood."
  • Executive Meddling:
    • Pimp C was not fond of the way Jive reworked tracks from The Southern Way to avoid having to clear samples when it came time to release their major label debut, Too Hard to Swallow.
    • "Diamonds & Wood" was originally titled "Diamonds Up Against That Wood" before being shortened by the label. Pimp C would continue to refer to the song by its original title.
  • Genre Popularizer: While they didn't do anywhere near the impact OutKast had to establish the South, they were still very much responsible for creating and codifying a lot of the Southern sound and helped spearhead the movement either way. Along with the aforementioned OutKast, Goodie Mob, and Arrested Development, they brought Southern hip-hop to the mainstream on a unified basis (rather than the incidental success of Geto Boys and 8Ball & MJG, or the fad that was Miami bass).
  • What Could Have Been: UGK and Three 6 Mafia had planned to form a supergroup called Underground Mafia. Pimp C had been planning on doing an album with Project Pat as well.
