Trivia / Transformers: BotBots

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Due to the relatively small voice cast, most of the actors double up on roles.
    • James Hartnett voices Burgertron and Angry Cheese.
    • Louisa Zhu voices Bonz-Eye and Laceface.
    • Christian Potenza voices Clogstopper and Caution.
    • Deven Mack voices Dimlit, Frostferatu, Sprinkleberry D'uhnut and Dinger.
    • Lisa Norton voices Kikmee, Fottle Barts and Lolly Licks.
    • Martin Roach voices Vomit Comet and Ol' Tic Tock.
    • Joseph Motiki voices Spud Muffin, Chitter Click and Sargent Scrubface.
    • Josette Jorge voices Ulf the Orange, Steer'd Wrong and Game Over.
    • Julie Lemieux voices Lady Macaron, Jacqueline, Dr. Flaskenstein and Anty Farmwell.
    • Cory Doran voices Wishy-Waffley and Fomo.
    • Sarah Hillier voices Batsby and Knotzel.
  • Early Draft Tie-In: The spin-off books and promotional commercial use Dinger and Kikmee, two characters that were introduced in Series 1 promotional images, but with toys released in Series 3 instead. Kikmee has it very badly, since he was originally created as a Lost Bot, but was shifted to the Playroom Posse in his Series 3 release, though the books and commercial keep him as a Lost Bot, especially jarring in the book titled after the titular team. The show appears to have been written around this time as well, as Kikmee remains in the Lost Bots here too.
  • Follow the Leader:
    • The franchise heavily rides on the craze of blind bagged items of mundane products come to life that The Trash Pack, Shopkins and The Grossery Gang helped popularize.
    • Series 2 in particular adds a lot of "spoiled food" characters who are more obviously derived from The Grossery Gang designs, with mold and such added into their details.
  • No Dub for You: One of the few American-produced entries in the franchise to not have its show dubbed into Japanese, following Transformers: Rescue Bots and the third seasons of both Transformers: Prime and Transformers: Robots in Disguise (2015).
  • Production Posse: Showrunners and writers Kevin Burke and Chris Wyatt pair up for this series, as they had before on The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012).
  • Show Accuracy/Toy Accuracy: A number of characters are heavily redesigned from their toy appearances in the cartoon, to the point that they barely resemble said toys. Some notable examples in the main cast are Clogstopper, Kikmee, and Bonz-Eye, and Spudmuffin and Frostferatu among the supporting cast.
  • Unspecified Role Credit: A franchise staple; outside of the main characters (the Lost Bots, Spud Muffin and Ulf the Orange), none of the characters have their voice actors associated for the cartoon.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Promotional artwork and the origins video shows two BotBots that were meant for Series 1, but didn't make it in: a forgetful baseball named Dinger and a playful soccerball named Kikmee. Dinger is a member of the Jock Squad, while Kikmee was a Lost Bot meant to be the theme representation of the Jock Squad. Both were later moved to Series 3, with Kikmee being grouped with the Playroom Posse. Despite this, the sticker book that only contains Series 1 and 2 characters still contains them, listing them as Series 1 characters still, while Kikmee still remains a Lost Bot in the storybook specifically devoted to that team.
    • Early concept art revealed plans for some G1-inspired characters, an Optimus Prime-like cardboard box named "Boximus" and a Bumblebee-like beehive named "Honeybee". An Optimus-based character would later be created as "Coffeemus Prime", but Bumblebee has yet to receive an homage character.
    • Early concept art for the series showed ideas for transforming kiosk playsets. This idea was scrapped, but was the inspiration for the "Ruckus Rally" vehicles.
    • A 6th series of the toyline was planned to release in 2020 but canceled, most likely because of the pandemic. Aside from a very Long List of BotBots belonging to preexisting squads that never saw release That list , this planned series also contained four all-new squads: The Caffeine CollectiveMembers  from the coffeeshop, the Gifted GuildMembers  from a store that seems to sell both joke gifts and jewelry, the Pet MobMembers  from the pet shop, and the Play PlexersMembers  from… a second playroom? (It’s not exactly clear.) Hasbro has since decided to make another Series 6, which contains exactly none of these ‘Bots, leaving it unknown if they will ever see a release.
