* ActorAllusion:
** In "Human Error", Human!Bulkhead is dressed like an UsefulNotes/AmericanFootball player. Likely a reference to Creator/BillFagerbakke's role as Dauber, a college football player on ''Series/{{Coach}}''.
** Sentinel Prime is a walking ShoutOut to TheTick, including his blue coloration, giant chin, and occasional lines like "Energon-y goodness". His character was actually designed after actor Townsend Coleman was cast.
** Wreck-Gar (voiced by Music/WeirdAlYankovic) declares "I '''dare''' to be stupid!" in one episode, and pulls out an accordion in another. Weird Al sang Wreck-Gar's theme in ''WesternAnimation/TheTransformersTheMovie''.
** In "Endgame, Part 1," [[DavidKaye Optimus]] shouts [[WesternAnimation/BeastWars "Yessssss!"]]
* DevelopmentGag: Team Athenia (Rodimus Prime, Red Alert, Hot Shot, Brawn, and Ironhide) is three-fifths scrapped ideas (see the first entry under WhatCouldHaveBeen). Sari's scooter / jetpack is based on a transforming trike she had in a dropped version of the opening sequence.
* ExecutiveMeddling: Twice, but [[TropesAreTools it wasn't so bad]]. The network wanted a human sidekick, so we got Sari Sumdac, who proved to be more popular than any previous human ally in the franchise, [[spoiler:though she later turned out to be part Cybertronian.]] The second time, the humans got put OutOfFocus in season three, which helped bring more attention to the conflict on Cybertron.
* FakeBrit: Angry Archer's voice, provided by Creator/JeffBennett, has been admitted to be a parody of Creator/JohnCleese.
* FanNickname:
** Blitzwing's faces are referred as "Icy", "Hothead" and "Random".
** Lugnut's PowerFist weapon is the "Punch Of Kill Everything", AKA The [[FunWithAcronyms P.O.K.E]].
** "''WesternAnimation/TeenTitans''", by some ''Transformers'' fans (G1 or other media) who believe the series is an inferior incarnation of the whole franchise, Ironically, the show was designed by the same team who worked on the aforementioned series.
** Since, in this continuity, Autobots are largely incapable of flying, the Animated version of [[http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Powerglide_%28Animated%29 Powerglide]] actually seems to transform into a ground-based alternate mode, prompting some to name him as "Powerdrive" instead.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: Season 3 was never released in the US. The other DVD's are out of print as well.
** The third season was released by Creator/ShoutFactory in June 2014 along with a DVD set of the full series. Unfortunately, the Shout! Factory releases do not include any of the shorts by Creator/Studio4C and there are no scheduled individual rereleases of the first two seasons.
* TheOtherDarrin:
** In season three, Omega Supreme is voiced by Creator/PhilLaMarr instead of Creator/KevinMichaelRichardson.
** Sparkplug Witwicky from [[WesternAnimation/TheTransformers the Generation 1 cartoon]] makes some [[ContinuityCameo Continuity Cameos]] in the episodes "Nature Calls", "Sari, No One's Home", and "Three's a Crowd", but his voice actor is never consistent. He is played by Creator/JeffBennett in his first appearance, Creator/DavidKaye in his second, and by John Mariano in his third appearance.
** The Newsbot only appears in two episodes ("Headmaster" and "The Return of the Headmaster"), both of which give him a different voice actor. He is voiced by David Kaye in the former and by Townsend Coleman in the latter.
* PlayingAgainstType: David Kaye as [[TheHero Optimus Prime]], as he has played both [[WesternAnimation/BeastWars evil warriors]] and [[Manga/InuYasha lancer]][=/=][[Anime/MegaManNTWarrior rival]] duos.
* RelationshipVoiceActor:
** [[WesternAnimation/{{Futurama}} Jazz/Omega Supreme is voiced by Hermes Conrad and Bumblebee/Blitzwing/Porter C. Powell is voiced by his son Dwight]].
** [[WesternAnimation/{{Gargoyles}} Prowl is Brooklyn, Owen Burnett, and the Magus and Bulkhead is Broadway]].
** [[WesternAnimation/SpongeBobSquarePants Starscream/Isaac Sumdac/Jetfire is SpongeBob SquarePants and Bulkhead/Major Disaster/Hot Shot is Patrick Star]].
* RunningTheAsylum: If you played a drinking game with Franchise/TransformersGeneration1 [[MythologyGag mythology gags]], you'd be dead by the third episode.
* ScienceMarchesOn: Blackarachnia speaks these exact words to justify her [[spoiler: Predacon]] research.
** Also, in a more real-world context; there's the updated forms of the Dinobots. The G1 Dinobots were already somewhat inaccurate even during the 80s, with different body proportions to the animals they were based on. By today's standards they are hideously inaccurate, with their stances and movements being made to reflect the idea that Dinosaurs used to be thought as slow and dumb. The Animated Dinobots are much, '''much''' closer in general accuracy to their respective animals in virtually every way. Body proportions, stances, range of movement, everything.
* ScrewedByTheNetwork: Sure, three seasons and 42 episodes doesn't sound too bad... until you realize that the show was on the air for ''less than a year and a half''.
* ShortRunInPeru: Somewhat annoyingly to American viewers, Canada's YTV aired this show a week ahead of Cartoon Network after it was dropped for one week in favor of the ''WesternAnimation/Ben10AlienForce'' premiere. Not to mention that, annoying everyone ''else'' in the world, a Dubai children's network aired almost all of season 2 over a month early, leading to WildMassGuessing and outright misinformation based on screenshots with no English translations.
* ShowAccuracyToyAccuracy: For what it's worth, ''Animated'' has some of the best accuracy between the show and the toys of any continuity, in that the toys are highly accurate in Alt Mode, Robot Mode, and have extremely accurate transformations, all while maintaining the series' unique art style.
* ShrugOfGod: The whole point of the mystery about what side of Starscream Slipstream represents is that '''''we are not supposed to know because it's just a joke'''''. Derrick J. Wyatt initially responded with this trope, and for a while would respond that ''anything'' was the side of Starscream that Slipstream represented (one notable example was the pain the Native Americans felt when they lost their buffalo herds). He's also keeping mum about how [[spoiler: Sari's protoform]] ended up in Isaac's lab - he feels that something like that should only be told in future TFA fiction. Fingers crossed...
* TalkingToHimself: Due in part to budget, Animated gets a ''lot'' of mileage out of its actors.
** Pushed to its logical end with the Starscream clones. Despite having color schemes clearly inspired by older characters that had their own names, they'll probably never be referred to as anything but Starscream clones on the show. That's because if they're all Starscream clones, then they all count as the same character; if they were different characters, they'd have to pay TomKenny extra to voice them all and they're only allowed to have one VA voice so many characters in a single episode.
** They've done several episodes where two characters go out on their own and argue the entire way, and often even had the same voice actor, with both Prime/Grimlock and Prowl/Fanzone.
** This was lampshaded during the Botcon 2008 script reading, where Bumblebee suggests to a thinly disguised Beast Wars Megatron (as voiced by David Kaye) that they call Grimlock or Lugnut (both voiced by David Kaye) for help. Megatron responds "Oh, please. What do I look like, [[WesternAnimation/BeastWars Scott McNeil]]?"
** There's even one where Animated!Optimus is talking about golf with BW!Megatron, the latter declaring with a chuckle that Autobots suck at golf.
** [[AddedAlliterativeAppeal Blitzwing, Bumblebee, and Blackout]] share a VA. (Blitzwing also often talks to himself literally.)
** Both being voiced by Creator/CoreyBurton, "Garbage In, Garbage Out" has some interaction between Ratchet and Spike Witwicky (said episode being the only time in the series where the latter gets any dialogue).
* ThrowItIn: Blitzwing's German accent was a last-minute improvisation by Bumper Robinson while auditioning for the role, no doubt based on the character's name. When he got the part, Blitzwing was hastily redesigned to compliment the accent.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Hot Shot and Red Alert were meant to be part of the main cast, but were replaced by Bumblebee and Ratchet, the former due to the 2007 movie's popularity and the latter due to the name sounding more like the old warhorse that the character was going to be portrayed as. Rodimus was first choice for the Sentinel Prime character mould, but this was nixed by Hasbro.
** Hot Shot was going to receive a toy later in the toyline, along with a triple changing Megatron, but both only made it to the prototype stage before the series was nixed for a number of reasons, including the release of ''[[TransformersFilmSeries Revenge of the Fallen]]''.
** In the episode "Autoboot Camp", originally conspiracy crazed Cliffjumper was to be the Autobot framed for being a Decepticon spy, but Hasbro did not approve of that and that role went to Wasp.
** The second Allspark Almanac goes in depth about what Season 4 would have been like. While we'd love for you to try to find the books, compiled or otherwise, we'll give you some details.
*** Ironhide and Jazz would've joined the main cast of Autobots, the former to replace Bulkhead who would be CommutingOnABus when his family Energon farms were attacked by Decepticons, the latter replacing [[spoiler: the deceased Prowl]].
*** Season 4 was also going to make Sentinel Prime a more antagonistic figure. [[Film/TransformersDarkOfTheMoon Funny one should mention that]].
*** Soundwave would've [[AscendedExtra joined with Megatron full-time.]]
*** Dirt Boss would've been part of a BigBadEnsemble with Megatron, coming into conflict with him at least once.
** Derrick Wyatt [[http://www.formspring.me/DerrickJWyatt/q/341689570351407149 mentions]] that they were planning on setting up a fight between the Dinobots and Constructicons in Season 4.
** The ''Animated'' producers were hoping to get Eric Idle to reprise his role as Wreck-Gar from the movie, but he was too busy with Theatre/{{Spamalot}}, so they ended up getting Music/WeirdAlYankovic instead. Though the final Wreck-Gar owes a lot more in appearance and mannerisms to Weird Al than Idle, his debut episode still contains a few ideas that were formed back when they were trying for Eric Idle -- most notably his team-up with Angry Archer, whose voice is very clearly an imitation of Creator/JohnCleese.
** Beachcomber was meant to be a ButtMonkey, according to [[WordOfDante supplementary material]].
** Megatron's weapon was originally going to be a katana, as seen [[http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/9c/Megatron-animatedart.jpg here]], but it was changed to the traditional fusion cannon and a pair of twin swords.
** The second to last scene of Season 3 would have been Slipstream [[spoiler: resurrecting Starscream]]
** Creator/MichaelBell, who voiced Prowl and Swoop in ''WesternAnimation/TheTransformers'', auditioned to reprise the roles for this show.
** Some scenes also had to be cut for time or for other reasons, as revealed in [[http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/marty-isenberg-talks-dinobots-and-other-animated-tidbits/13665/ this interview.]] The most major one? Megatron beating the tar out of the Dinobots. The scene was going to show [[TheWorfEffect how powerful he was]], but the scene was nixed also due to a desire to not upset Dinobot fans and because the animation for the fight was deemed subpar.
** Another one was that Starscream was apparently supposed to [[IronicNickname have a fairly quiet voice]], as Marty Isenberg ''really'' disliked the screechy voice G1 Starscream had. However, after advice from Derrick J. Wyatt and hearing Creator/TomKenny's performance he decided to compromise with a voice that was high and a bit whiny, but not outright shrill.
** Afterburn, the CanonForeigner from the Titan Comics, was originally going to be named Sideswipe, and preview images even called him that. He was given a different name due to fans hating the design, along with the possibility that Hasbro [[ExecutiveMeddling intervened]] due to [[spoiler:his nature as TheMole]], similar to the Cliffjumper example.
** The series was originally titled ''Transformers: Heroes'' and would have had a less stylized art style.
** They originally wanted Creator/ScottMcNeil to reprise his role as Waspinator from ''WesternAnimation/BeastWars'', but he was unable to work in the US without a permit.
** Jetfire and Jetstorm were originally going to be played by Creator/EricBauza instead of Tom Kenny and Bumper Robinson.
* WordOfGod: Several things, most notably the possibility of [[spoiler: Blurr not being dead]], and Slipstream's name.
