  • Billing Displacement:
    • Not only is Britt Robertson not billed above the title like George Clooney, even though Casey is the main character more than Frank is, but she's actually billed behind Hugh Laurie as well.
    • Likewise Raffey Cassidy, who gets at least as much screen time as Clooney and far more than Laurie, but comes fourth in the cast list.
  • Box Office Bomb: Quite a painful one for Disney. Only made $208 million worldwide against its $190 million budget (not including marketing costs). All told, Disney lost between $120 and $140 million.
  • Creator Backlash: Brad Bird said he regretted having to cut Judy Greer's screen time down, saying he pretty much wasted her talents.
  • Dawson Casting: Britt Robertson is in her mid 20s, yet plays a girl who is still in high school.
  • Dear Negative Reader: Brad Bird responded to criticisms towards the film's Road Trip Plot by pointing out that simply having the characters walk around the eponymous city would not make for an interesting story.
  • Deleted Role: Judy Greer's role as Casey's Mother was denoted to a flashback home video and is missing from the present day time period. Word of God is that Casey's Mother (along with members of Casey's extended family) were cut to streamline the story. Casey's mother appears in the present time period in the Junior Novelization. Some of their scenes are among the deleted scenes on the Blu-ray release.
  • Doing It for the Art: Brad Bird turned down an offer to direct The Force Awakens in order to work on this instead.
  • Reality Subtext: The movie's concept is based on plans Walt Disney had for a 'City of the Future' - dedicated to showcasing new technology. Like in the movie, it would have had a monorail going around, and even had plans for a functioning airport.
  • Underage Casting: George Clooney plays a character who is roughly sixteen years older than he is in real life.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Shailene Woodley was the first choice to play Casey, amusingly enough an attempt to reunite her with George Clooney after The Descendants. Being notoriously selective about what roles she takes, she turned it down. Judy Greer had also starred alongside them in The Descendants too. Brie Larson auditioned for the role.
    • Legendary editor Walter Murch (Apocalypse Now, The English Patient) was originally working on the film. However, he was unceremoniously and suddenly fired due to creative differences between the studio and the filmmakers.
    • The film was first announced as far back as 2011, with the Working Title '1952'. It was later retitled 'Tomorrowland' after the U.S. Disney Theme Parks' land.
