Trivia / Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy

  • Ascended Fanon: The name, "Blood and Ice Cream" wasn't really thought up by Wright. It came about when while doing a panel, a fan couldn't help but notice the running theme of Cornetto in all the films and asked about it. Wright just shrugged and told him it was a coincidence. The fans ran with it coining the nickname and eventually Wright turned it into the official name of the series.
  • Channel Hop: Sort of. In the UK, all three films were released by Universal. In the US, the first two films were released by Universal's label for "cult" films at the time, Rogue Pictures, while the third was released under the Focus Features brand (since Rogue had been sold to another company).
  • Shout-Out: The "Three Flavours Cornetto" name is a clear reference to Krzysztof Kieślowski's famous Three Colors Trilogy.
  • Referenced by...: Pegg and Frost cameo in the anime series, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, which has Wright as an executive producer. In the last episode, they are seen as eating Cornettos, as a reference to the trilogy.
  • Typecasting/Playing Against Type: In Shaun of the Dead & Hot Fuzz, Pegg played the Straight(er) Man to Frost's Adult Child. This actually pre-dates the trilogy to Spaced, with Pegg & Frost maintaining the same dynamic seen in Shaun of the Dead & Hot Fuzz. The World's End, on the other hand, switches the roles around.
  • Write What You Know: In Shaun of the Dead, Shaun tells Ed, who's hungover from a large drinking binge the previous night, he's heading to the store for snacks and asks him if he wants anything. Ed simply responds with "Cornetto". Wright has stated that in his college days, he would eat Cornettos as a way to cure a hangover, hence the inspiration for this scene.
