Trivia / The Year Santa Went Modern

Go To

  • Spiritual Successor: A few years later in 1970, a different book came out that takes up essentially the same theme in a Lighter and Softer (and arguably more child-friendly) way: "Santa Makes A Change" by Sol Chaneles (illustrated by Jerome Snyder). In it, Santa gets the idea that his outfit is outdated and that he should try a different one. In consultation with his entire team – reindeer, helpers and Jack Frost, he tries out a variety of costumes, none of which pass muster. Finally, on being asked to try on his Santa suit one more time, there is a burst of applause. Santa decides to keep it, and writes a poem that shows that he understands that, while not the height of fashion, his outfit helps people know him when he brings "a smile to children's faces".
