- Never Work with Children or Animals: The crew's decision to use real maggots in this episode did not sit well with the actors, especially Gillian Anderson who noted that they were "the most disgusting things you can imagine" and difficult to wrangle effectively. Denny Arnold, the actor playing the first murder victim was called back for the autopsy scene,note with maggots crawling on him throughout the scene while struggling to play dead. (Arnold made light of it, warning the crew that he would eat any maggots that got near his mouth.) Eventually, Chris Carter decided the maggots were more trouble than they were worth and filmed some of the later scenes using grains of rice and other inanimate stand-ins.
- Recycled Set: The prison set constructed for this episode was reused for both Teso Dos Bichos and Talitha Cumi later in the season, and was regularly loaned out to other film and television productions in Vancouver for years afterwards.
