• Adaptation Overdosed: The book's been adapted into a manhua, two stage versions, and a video game as well as:
  • Four films — 1978, 1990, 1992, and 1993.
  • Eight television series — 1984, 1985, 1996, 2000 (two different series aired this year), 2001, 2013, and 2018.
• Dawson Casting:
  • Linghu Chong is presumably in his early to late 20s while Ren Yingying is presumably in her early 20s. Very often older actors and actresses were selected to play the pair, especially that of Linghu Chong.
  • Steve Ma plays Linghu Chong in the Singaporean TV series (2000) and was 38 when the series aired. He's actually older than Zheng Geping, the actor who played Yue Buqun!
  • Richie Jen plays Linghu Chong in the Taiwanese TV series (2000) and was 36 when the series aired.
  • Bryan Leung plays Linghu Chong in the Taiwanese TV series (1985) and was 37 when the series aired. Unlike Steve Ma who in his late 30s could arguably pass for someone in his late 20s, Leung actually looks a bit too old for the role.
  • Sam Hui played Linghu Chong in the 1990 movie. He was in his early 40s!
