Trivia / The Singing Nun

Go To

  • Disowned Adaptation: Reportedly, Jeanine Deckers (a.k.a., Sœur Sourire), whom the titular Singing Nun was based off of, was unimpressed with the film and referred to it as "a film of fiction."
  • Fake Nationality:
    • Mexican actor Ricardo Montalbán as Father Clementi, who, judging from his surname and accent, is Italian.
    • Most of the main characters who are Belgian (and in the case of Sister Mary, African) are played by North American actors.
  • Real Song Theme Tune: The intro features an orchestral re-arrangement of "Dominique," the Singing Nun's no. 1 hit.
    • A lot of the background score has borrowed some tunes from the real Singing Nun's songs.
  • Troubled Production: Director Henry Koster recalls that the movie is "probably the most difficult thing I ever did" due to friction between producer John Beck and Debbie Reynolds. To that end, he "never did another picture" making this his last film until his death from liver cancer in 1988.
