• Blooper: When Bart is spying on the neighborhood and glances into the Hibbert residence, the photos on the wall show a white (yellow) family◊.
• Deleted Scene:
  • After Bart goes to see Doctor Hibbert about his broken leg, Homer asks if Bart could have a waterproof cast so he can still go swimming in their pool. Hibbert checks with the HMO, a Chinese communist woman who declares "the people will not tolerate this bourgeois extravagance" (in other words, no).
  • The scene where Homer puts chlorine in the pool had a few extra seconds where Marge and Lisa ask Homer just how much chlorine he put in. Pan to Homer nervously holding an empty barrel before running off. It was cut on the ground of belabouring the obvious fact Homer had screwed up.
  • As Bart tries to convince the family Ned's a murderer, he claims he has proof... well, sketches he's drawn (including one he's particularly fond of). Then Grandpa yells from the bathroom that he's stuck to the "terlet".
• Throw It In!: Krusty's mispronunciation of Ravi Shankar's name was an ad-lib, that David Mirkin kept in after the editing process because he liked it so much.
• Write What You Know: Many of the heat wave jokes at the start of the episode were based on past events of the crew's lives. The sitting in front of the fridge-freezer joke, came from Dan McGrath, who had done a similar thing as a child. The Springfield Pool-Mobile was based on a similar vehicle from David Mirkin's childhood, where a truck with a "spinning cars" fairground ride on the back would often come around his neighborhood.
