Trivia / The Power (2023)

Go To

  • Actor-Shared Background: Auli'i Cravalho and John Leguizamo both have Latino ancestry, as the young actors playing her siblings/his younger kids do. Leguizamo's character Rob's surname is Lopez, with the kids getting it alongside Cleary as a result. He and Jos, Cravalho's character, speak Spanish to each other in the pilot as well.
  • Dawson Casting: The teenagers on the show are as usual played by actors in their early twenties.
  • Fake American: Australian actress Toni Collette plays another American here.
  • Queer Character, Queer Actor: Transgender Chilean actress Daniela Vega plays Sister Maria, a nun who tells Eve she's also trans.
  • Self-Adaptation: Naomi Alderman, author of the novel, is credited as executive producer on the series.
  • Troubled Production: It was supposed to film in Georgia in 2019, but an anti-abortion law that the governor signed that year (which was especially galling for the producers of a series based on a feminist novel, one of whom was the book's author herself) caused production to relocate to Toronto. Early filming started there in February 2020, only to be put on hold by the COVID-19 Pandemic, which not only forced the show to relocate production again to England but also caused several actors, including Leslie Mann, Rainn Wilson, and Wilson's replacement Tim Robbins, to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.
  • What Could Have Been: Before the COVID-19 pandemic held up production, Margot was supposed to be played by Leslie Mann, while Dandon was supposed to be played by Rainn Wilson. Wilson dropped out due to the long delays and scheduling conflicts caused by the pandemic and was replaced by Tim Robbins, who himself dropped out along with Mann in 2022 for the same reason, causing them to be replaced by Toni Collette and Josh Charles.
