Trivia / The Pink City

  • Based on a Dream: According to Gooseworx, "Elain Gets Adopted" and "The Darly Boxman Show" were based on dreams. Darly's scream increasing in fidelity was also taken from the dream.
  • Throw It In!: According to Gooseworx, Gop vanishing when confronted by Vondu in "Elain Gets Adopted" was an accident which she left in and worked into the story because it was funny.
  • What Could Have Been: According to Gooseworx about "Elain Gets Adopted", "the needle going into the eye was originally going to be a lot more slow and graphic, but every one of my friends told me not to do that, so I changed it."
  • Word of God: According to Gooseworx on social media (e.g. this Twitter thread):
    • All the cartoons as of the time of writing (2021) take place in 2025.
    • Everyone still only uses CRT TVs.
    • Eyelashes are the only thing that differentiate males and females; any "breasts" are just padded bras.
    • There's no sex in the Pink City universe. Babies are made by sending a persuasive letter to the Baby Brewery, which is "one of the five corporations that rule over everything."
    • Ghosts aren't dead people.
    • From this tweet:
Only people with clown ancestry have games inside their stomachs. Gop Donsterly is 1/4th clown, and was born in Fuzner's Circus City.
    • Normally, shape people have lifespans slightly longer than those of humans. Clowns don't die of age, but can "choose to die if the moment is funny enough."
    • Elain doesn't speak because she dislikes the sound of her own voice. If she did speak, it would be in a text box.
    • Character ages: Elain is "prolly like 21 or something", Dento is "probably 25", Vondu is 46, Hoonis and Bep are 33, Darly would be 58 in the present day, Shurley is 34, Zub (who is mentioned on the radio in "Elain Gets Adopted") is 29, Gop is 77, and Nuzzner is 62.
    • Bep is estranged from her father because of his career choices and his expectations for her to Follow in My Footsteps.
She doesn't respect his line of work and where it got him.
Also he acted like continuing the Darly Boxman Show was her only choice in life. She rebelled by getting into adult talkshows and loudly hates kids shows.
    • The trivia game in Gop's stomach was not a reference to the Gastral Giveaway from Gooseworx's previous animation Little Runmo.
Gooseworx: I honestly didn't even realize the similarities until I started getting comments about it.
    • Although the in-universe Darly Boxman Show is supposedly a children's show, "appealing to children wasn't necessarily the goal of the show."
    • On the biology of shape people:
They usually don't have blood. Only people of "The Mighty Bloodline" will have blood and real biological use of their organs, as opposed to symbolic use of their organs like most people(hence, why Elain can survive without a heart)
They can also get squished, splattered, and chopped up as if they're made of clay, and can usually survive, unless the injuries are severe enough, or the Elders of Lost Eyes decide for their story to end. This makes "plot armor" an actual biological element in someone's survival.
The three big corporations that control the world are still looking into how to obtain this elusive "plot armor."
