• Accidentally-Correct Writing: The climax of the movie has an elasmosaur showing up in a river in order to chase away Dil. At the time, elasmosaurs were known strictly as marine animals, but in 2021, we described Fluvionectes sloanae, a mid-sized elasmosaur that inhabited freshwater/brackish water environments.
• Celebrity Voice Actor: Charles Durning as Archie.
• Died During Production: Linda Gary (Grandma Longneck from II to IV) passed away from brain cancer in 1995 and was replaced by Miriam Flynn. A tragic bit of irony, as Grandma's role in the movie is watching her husband succumbing to an illness.
• What Could Have Been:
  • The ending seemed to imply that there were plans in place for Ali to return much sooner, possibly as early as the very next movie. This never came to pass however, possibly due to a change in directors.
  • Early ads for Journey Through the Mists identified it as the third film. It later switched positions with The Time of the Great Giving before release.
