Trivia / The Karate Kid (2010)

Go To

  • Accidentally-Correct Writing: Karate was an Okinawan offshoot of Fujian White Crane kung fu. So the title is still somewhat accurate depending on how semantic you want to be.
  • Backed by the Pentagon: Beijing, actually, but similar principle. The remake has gratuitous shots of notable landmarks in China which probably needed to be directly authorized by some higher officials. In return, China is depicted as a really nice place with a mix of ancient civilization, modernity, and natural beauty.
  • The Cast Showoff:
    • Enforced Trope—The casting for Cheng required him to have the right appearance, be proficient at wushu, bilingual in English and Mandarin, and perform facial and eye expressions on cue, all while being teenaged or younger.
    • Wenwen Han (Meiying) is also a violinist and dancer.
  • Deleted Scene: There's an epic fight scene between Mr. Han and Master Li at the very end that got removed apparently because it would have taken too much focus away from Dre's victory.
  • Reused Character Design: Wu Ping, a kid with a Mohawk who competed in the tournament, may have been the inspiration for Cobra Kai character Hawk.
  • Stillborn Franchise: A follow-up film was reportedly being worked on, but due to constant dissatisfactions regarding script draft, nothing has come of it ever since — and is probably dead in the water thanks to Cobra Kai. In 2022, Sony announced a new Karate Kid film, but confirmed it would be set in the continuity of the original films. However, it was later announced that Jackie Chan would be reprising his role from this movie in that one, seemingly bringing the two into one continuity.
