The Books:

  • Executive Meddling: Inkspell would've been called Inkblood were it not for English translators feeling that a children's book with the word "blood" wouldn't sell.
  • Hypothetical Casting: Cornelia Funke mentioned that she always imagined Mo to be a bit like Brendan Fraser and then the casting went like that for the movie
  • Troubled Production: During the writing of Inkdeath, Funke's husband passed away from cancer.

Inkheart (2008):

  • Approval of God: Cornelia Funke loved the film adaptation.
  • Box Office Bomb: Budget, $60 million. Box office: $62,450,361. The film's underperformance scrapped plans for the following two books being adapted into films.
  • Release Date Change: It was originally set for a Christmas 2007 release, then it was postponed to March 2008 due to its slow production style. It finally came out in December 2008 in the UK and in January 2009 in the US.
