• California Doubling: Taking place in Chile, the movie was mostly filmed in Denmark, with city street scenes taken in Lisbon and the Alentejo region in Portugal serving as rural landscapes.
• Fake Nationality: None of the actors from the movie were Chilean. In fact, none of the actors were Hispanic/Latino,^note the only non-Hispanic/non-Latino character being the French Count Jean de Satigny with the exceptions of the Spanish Antonio Banderas (Pedro Tercero), the Cuban-Venezuelan Maria Conchita Alonso (Transito), the Mexican Joaquin Martinez (Segundo), and the Puerto Rican Míriam Colón (Nana).
