• Real-Life Relative: Jerry Stiller and Ben Stiller are father and son in real life.
• What Could Have Been:
  • Barry Sonnenfeld was the first director considered for the film.
  • Jason Bateman and Amy Poehler were originally cast as the leads when James Bobin was signed on to direct the film. When the Farrelly Brothers replaced Bobin as directors, the roles were recast with Ben Stiller (who had previously worked with the Farrellys on There's Something About Mary) and Malin Åkerman.
  • In the original script, Lila would constantly make racist remarks upon arriving in Mexico with Eddie for their honeymoon. Farrelly felt that this would make Lila too monstrous in the eyes of viewers, who would be forced to root for Eddie to abandon her and choose Miranda at the end of the film. They decided to cut that element from the script to avoid this and also to underscore that what Eddie is doing to the two women is morally wrong, regardless of their personalities.
  • Originally, Michelle Monaghan auditioned for the role of Lila. At the end of the audition, Ben Stiller asked if she would also like to audition for the role of Miranda and they immediately realized that she was perfect for the role.
