Trivia / That Gosh Darn Hippie Show

Go To

  • The Cast Showoff: The idea of doing a Twilight Zone Parody Episode had been tossed around by DJ Hippie before, but her motivation to finally put that plan into action was giving her friend Steven a chance to use a threatening child voice he made up during a game of Funemployed (which also influenced which episode they chose to parody).
  • Celebrity Paradox: Out-of-character Ad Bumpers featuring the actors playing Pixel and Anthony appeared in the same episode as the characters they played (although as Anthony’s actor is significantly older than the character, the voice isn’t immediately recognizable).
  • Channel Hop: As mentioned on the main page, the show started on WDBK before moving to WRGG. After the move WDBK joined the show's syndication network, but is no longer the show's home station. New episodes debut on WRGG, and some episodes air exclusively on that station.
  • Crosscast Role: The Oracle, a stereotypical surfer dude, is played by Hayley Rose, a transgender woman.
  • Dawson Casting: Steven Grimes, who played Anthony, recorded his lines about a month before his 20th birthday. Anthony sounds like he’s around three.
  • Descended Creator: The show's distributor has a small vocal cameo in The Twilight Zone Parody Episode ("All I wanted to do was listen to Perry Como!"), and the actors playing Pixel and Anthony have both done some significant behind-the-scenes work before appearing on air.
  • Fake Brit: One James Bond-themed episode had DJ Hippie's mother doing a brief Moneypenny impersonation (which was originally supposed to be done by DJ Hippie herself, but she couldn't pull off the accent).
  • I Want You to Meet an Old Friend of Mine: Steven and Hayley both appeared on Real-Time Fandub before Hayley's first appearance as the Oracle.
  • Meaningful Release Date: The Twilight Zone Parody Episode was intended to air on Friday the 13th, although due to a baseball game running late the show got cut short (appropriately enough, considering the superstitions behind the date). It didn’t air all the way through until the next day.
  • Real Song Theme Tune: "Flying" by The Beatles plays in the background of the show's intro. The sign-off uses "Her Majesty" by the same band— and on the last show on WDBK before the Channel Hop, the final song before the sign-off was "The End", the song which precedes "Her Majesty" on Abbey Road.
  • The Shelf of Movie Languishment: An Indiana Jones Parody Episode was written and recorded, but never aired, because the rare record DJ Hippie and friends were going on a quest to find got an official re-release days before the episode was set to air.
  • What Could Have Been: As discussed on the main page, DJ Hippie starts out Episode 314 with a few songs about circles and pie in honor of the OTHER pi. As soon as she mentions that, someone breaks into the studio and exclaims "Pie?! Did someone say pie?" However, an alternate version of this line was recorded:
