Trivia / Tekken 8

Go To

  • Ascended Fanboy: During the Tekken Talk that showed the first glimpse of Eddy in gameplay, Harada mentioned that the motion capture actor for the character, Sasamori, was initially inspired to take up Capoeira in the first place from seeing Eddy in Tekken 3. He joked that technically, Eddy was his first Capoeira master.
  • Blooper: During Tekken Talk at Tekken World Tour Finals 2023, a sharp eye would notice that someone at Bandai Namco didn't double check on what cover they used for Tekken 2.
  • Celebrity Voice Actor: Vincent Cassel is amongst the most prominent French film actors, and not someone typically associated with video game work, though he explains that he lent his voice to newcomer Victor Chevalier out of passion for the Tekken series. (He played Eddy in Tekken 3 and also practices capoeira himself.)
  • Content Leak:
    • Bandai Namco's social media accidentally uploaded Bryan Fury's trailer a day prior to its intended reveal.
    • In a similar incident, Bandai Namco Europe's site accidentally revealed both Raven and Azucena the day before their reveal at EVO.
    • The game's entire base roster would end up leaking in August 2023, just before the reveal of Raven and Azucena at that year's EVO. Before this, several fighters in the base roster were also leaked via datamining of the closed beta, with Raven being one of them.
    • Physical copies leaked a few days before the release date and videos of the story mode were posted online.
  • Dummied Out: A DeviantArt user discovered and extracted Devil Reina's character model from the game files, and she is currently a mod skin for Reina due to lack of moveset.
  • Foiler Footage: The announcement teaser for the game has some key differences between it and the cutscenes actually used during the final battle, in particular Jin summoning his Devil form's wing, while in the final game he has purged the Devil Gene from himself and Kazuya just before.
  • Milestone Celebration: Releases on the year of the franchise's 30th anniversary, just 11 months short of the very first game's initial release in Japan.
  • The Original Darrin:
  • Promoted Fanboy: Vincent Cassel is a self-professed Eddy player who played Tekken back in the 90s, and he now voices Victor Chevalier as one of the three newcomers in the base roster.
  • Role Reprise
    • Tekken: Bloodline aside, Mamiko Noto reprises her role as Jun for the first time since Tekken Tag Tournament 2, which released back in 2012.
    • After being replaced in 7 for Steve's Character Episode dialogue, Gideon Emery returns to the role.
  • Sequel Gap: Tekken 8 launched over six and a half years after Tekken 7's console release (and nearly nine overall if the original Arcade version back in 2015 is considered).
  • What Could Have Been:
    • A Harada's Bar episode states that the game was originally planned for a Summer 2023 release. Once Bandai Namco found out their intended release date is the exact same as another fighting game's, they opt to push the game to the announced January 26, 2024 release date to avoid the potential lose-lose situation. note
    • The Heat system used to have an additional resource called Heat Energy, which is mainly used to determine how many times the player can use a Heat Dash per round. The system was reworked to exclude Heat Energy after alpha testing concluded that it only created needless complications.
  • You Sound Familiar:
    • Asami Seto was previously the Japanese voice of Lili in Street Fighter X Tekken before going on to voice Reina in this game.
    • Lenne Hardt, the announcer for the character reveal trailers, was Anna Williams' original voice actress.
