Trivia / Tekken (2010)

Go To

  • Ability over Appearance: Dwight H Little felt that Ian Anthony Dale was a bit too young to play Kazuya, but liked his audition so much that he was cast anyway and given some ageing makeup to make it believable that he could be the father of a teenager.
  • Actor-Shared Background: Lateef Crowder is not only proficient in capoeira, but he's also Brazilian, making him apt to play Eddy Gordo.
  • Box Office Bomb: The 2010 film's budget was $35 million. Its box office take? $1,696,665. Never theatrically released in America, the poor showing was especially incredible in Japan.
  • Cast the Expert: They specifically cast people with real fighting experience.
  • Dawson Casting: Jin is 15 when he enters the franchise in Tekken 3. While the movie gives him a slight Age Lift to presumably be late teens or early twenties, Jon Foo was 29.
  • Disowned Adaptation: Katsuhiro Harada, director of the games, said the movie was terrible, and wanted the animated film Tekken: Blood Vengeance to erase this one from memory.
  • Dyeing for Your Art: Jon Foo went on a three month diet for the film.
  • Fake Irish:
    • South African actress Candice Hillebrand as Nina Williams. Using an American accent.
    • Anna is likewise played by Marian Zipco, who is Spanish. She only says one word in the whole film though.
  • Fake Nationality:
    • Jin is Japanese, played by the Singaporean-Irish actor Jon Foo. He was also born and raised in the UK, which is why Jin speaks with a distinct London accent.
    • American actress Kelly Overton as the Brazilian Christie Monteiro.
    • Cung Lee is Vietnamese-American, playing Marshall Law, who is Chinese.
    • Miguel Rojo is Spanish. Roger Huerta is American.
  • Hypothetical Casting: The film's IMDB boards touted Geoff Meed as a potential Paul Phoenix before Paul became The Ghost.
  • Irony as She Is Cast: In this version, Heihachi Mishima is a Corrupt Corporate Executive who doesn't fight. His actor Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa is a trained martial artist as well.
  • Promoted Fanboy: Jon Foo was a huge fan of the games, and felt honoured to play Jin.
  • Underage Casting:
    • Ian Anthony Dale plays Kazuya, who's Jin's father. He is only five years older than Jon Foo.
    • Tamlyn Tomita is a little better, at 17 years older than Jon Foo, at least making her believable if Jun was a teen mother.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • When the project was first in development, original director Charles Stone III hoped to get the likes of Jackie Chan and Jet Li to star.
    • Sarah Polley was also considered to play Nina.
    • Gina Philips (of Jeepers Creepers fame) was originally cast at Anna, but had to drop out due to a pregnancy.
    • Director Dwight H. Little's first choice for Jin was Ryan Merriman.
    • Takeshi Kaneshiro, Sienna Guillory, Susie Amy, Andy Serkis, Nathan Jones, and Kurt Angle were all at one point attached to the project.
    • Ling Xiaoyou was originally intended to be a significant character and Jin's primary love interest (matching their relationship in the games), with Chiaki Kuriyama in running for the role. For unknown reasons, Kuriyama dropped out of the project and the script was subsequently changed with Ling's role given to Christie.
